Re: Building a rifle
Yea I'm just getting all my basic calibers back but nothing special, mid grade guns. - Thompson Dimension do all modular gun in .204 (can buy cheap 200.00 barrels in other calibers for it) - Ruger Gunsite Scout in stainless in 450 bushmaster (deer hunting gun) - Henry Frontier Octagon .22 lever (lov...

Re: Building a rifle
Consider it like building a street rod from a 55 Chevy. You start with a base and go from there. It's most always more expensive, and you'll never get out of it for what you have in it should you decide to sell. BUT.....you get exactly what you want in the finished rig, maybe unique like no other, ...

Re: Building a rifle
Don't know if it is cheaper. Sometimes it can be, other times no. But it is something I enjoy doing. like some to wood work, etc. I also just buy a factory rifle, that I like or want. I have or done both, just depends on what I see or want to work with or on. It is just part of the hobby of shootin...

Re: Building a rifle
For me, when I say "my next build is ?" I mean I am getting or using a donor reciever, and for me either a savage or Remington, and then I get a pre-fit barrel in the style and caliber I want and fit it onto said reciever. I may then alter the present stock or buy a stock from someone lik...

Building a rifle
I see many posts of people saying "For my next build I'm getting a ..." Is that some figure of speech for buying a gun? Or are these guys like machinists that spin a barrel on lathe, hammer it down. Drill holes, craft triggers etc. I just go to a store or gunshop and buy a Remington, Tikka...

Re: Which suppression do you use?
We've had very good luck with both Gemtech and Silencerco; both make great cans. When shooting ground squirrels, the rats hardly know we're there when shooting suppressed. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/922/W1wyQY.jpg How well do they work? Most excellent! It's almost not fair......a...

Which suppression do you use?
Was wondering what a good performing suppressor for the .204 is. Would like it as light as possible yet still hush the noise as much as possible. Anyone here using a suppressor? If yes how well does it work?

Re: Twist Rate calculator something seems wrong
I fooled around with the calculator to see what bullet rpm the 32 and 40 need. rpm = MV x 720/twist rate in inches 32gr are stable at 4000 fps in 1/12 = 240,000 rpm 40gr are longer so need more rpm to achieve the same stability as the 32gr. most of the 40s don't shoot at 4000fps more like 3700-3800 ...

Re: Twist Rate calculator something seems wrong
I found a better twist calculater. The Berger one did not change with bullet weight adjustments. JBM calulator has inputs for plastic tip, weight etc and they all change the outcome. http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi ie. Items in GREEN are good. yellow is marginal red unstable. ht...

Re: Twist Rate calculator something seems wrong
Just out of curiosity I pulled that system up and ran some figures. I did note that they only offer the 40 grain bullet and not the 32 in their choice under 20 caliber. and if you show the 40 in the top window, but type in the 32 in the side windows, you get unstable. But if you type the 40 grain i...

Re: Twist Rate calculator something seems wrong
I wish they would just let people know at what rpm range the bullet is stable at. Thats the bottom line the rpms. My .204 bolt came in 1/10 twist. I wonder since Thompson was late to the .204 game if they did not test 1/12, 1/11 and 1/10 to see what stabilizes the best. The Honady SP 45gr are actual...

Twist Rate calculator something seems wrong
I was playing around with the Berger Twist Rate Stability calculator (http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/) Something seems wrong here. I put in the stats for a 32gr .204 vmax with a 1/12 twist barrel at 4100 fps. It says the bullet will have marginal stability. Most .204s are 1/12 an...

Re: 204 will it lift a PD out of it hole like a 22-250?
Wow thats some firepower on those rats!
So for acrobatics you need to hit them inside of 300 with 32 or 40gr. I have a bunch of each type but only used to sight the gun in so far.
Why choose 32gr over the 40gr for PD? Of the two which blows them up better.

Just wondering if the .204 will make PDs go flying like some of the you tube videos.
I know the 22-250 does it but have not seen many .204 vs PD videos out there.
If it does which bullet does it best the 32 or 40gr?

Re: groups at 100 yds
I've only shot mine once at the range. Here are my last groups at 100 yards. Using off the shelf $30.00 Fiocchi 40gr in my TC Dimension.
Good shooting cheap ammo.
