Re: Rick in Oregon

Rick,
Good to hear that you're on the mend!! :D

I have'nt been on-line lately because one of my kids has been in the hospital for 5 WEEKS. I think I better make time to check in more often.

Keep your spirits high and your trigger finger loose. The 204um isn't the same without you!!

Re: Thoughts on Rem XR-100?

Hotshot I bought this rifle used off of the internet for $500.00. The guy that sold it to me said it had about 100 rounds through it and a check of the bore showed no signs of erosion. No way I was gonna pass on a deal like that. I have since bought a Savage single shot .204 and I liike it as well ...

Re: Thoughts on Rem XR-100?

Vartarg , My XR-100 has been great, it has always shot sub 1/2 moa groups or better. It has a very smooth action and the trigger breaks clean. Mine has about 2300 rounds through it and is still shooting tight groups when I do my part. I also believe that it will be a great base for a custom rifle w...

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot

Well I could probably come up with a million excuses as to why I shot so badly at my P-Dog target but I wont blame my rifle. It was mainly a severe lack of trigger time and rushing to get it done before the deadline. :eew: I WILL say that the reason I completely missed the Tiebreaker circle is becau...

Re: Good to be back...

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments. Of course my daughter's the one who did the hard part, for me it was a pleasure working with fine wood and seeing the project come together. I figure to get him started with my granddad's Winchester model 69a .22 as soon as he is old enough to reach the tr...

New Savage single shot

I finally got out to the range today and shot my new to me Savage model 12FV single shot. The guy that sold it to me threw in some factory ammo so I shot that first for sighters and foulers. :eew: Then I put some home rolled rounds through it :D I only averaged .55" on 4, 5 shot groups, but I w...

Good to be back...

To shooting that is. I've been busy with a little project that has kept me from shooting or posting much. :x Then again, sometimes the little projects are totally worth it. Like a cradle for my first grandkid: Javen James!! [img]http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r175/hozz57/Javenscradle043.jpg[/img...

Re: Finally finished - my new custom 204 - UPDATED

Rick, That there is one GREAT looking rig   I love that stock, I have one on my Rem 700 .220 swift, I bedded it before I shot it so I don't know if it improved or not. But I like the warm feeling I get knowing that there is total contact between action and stock. By the way I just checked ...

Re: Looking for a new way...

I picked up my new rifle yesterday and opted for the "wait 'til she goes to the store, then sneak it into the safe" method. The thing is if she looks in my safe it will be obvious that there is a new rifle in there. I need a bigger safe. :chin: The rig looks OK although upon close inspecti...

Has anyone out there tried "Dan Newberry's Optimal Charge Weight" system for load development? http://www.home.earthlink.net/~dannewberry/dannewberrysoptimalchargeweightloaddevelopment/index.html%20-%2061k%20- If it works then it should save on powder and time spent doing ladders or other ...

Re: Looking for a new way...

Thanks Lee. I'm glad to know you've got my back. I've been thinking about making up a phony medical study that describes how owning more guns helps men become better lovers. I could post it on the web, and since everybody knows that "if its on the web it must be true"...They'll have to bel...

Looking for a new way...

...to bring a new .204 into the house. Yep, I was on gun broker and happened to see a Savage FV-S in cal. .204 Ruger and thought that I'd check to see if someone would out-bid me...Nobody did. I like the idea of a single shot action and I figure that I could find a take-off laminate stock to fit on ...

Re: 204 Recoil

operationsnsc, What power do you have your scope set on? I know that on some of my hotter loads I have to reduce the power on my scope to 10X to 12X in order to keep my target in the field of view. At the range I always keep it set on max (25X) but I usually reduce power to 16X on the praire.

Well you could put some ventilation in (cheapest way), and then you put the wife in there and make the rest of the house your reloading room.

Re: Range Brass

This is the 2nd time I've had problems with range brass. The 1st time it was on some 220 Swift brass that scored the inside of my full length sizer. I think it would be cheaper to just buy new brass.

No more range brass for me!
