New stock

I have a Savage 12 FV in 204 Ruger, it has the regular factory Savage stock on it. The rifle shoots great the picture attached is the best 100 yrd target I ever shot with any rifle. I don’t think I can improve the rifles shooting capability, or mine with a new stock, but I’d like to get a better loo...

Re: Big bullet drop

Something is not right, and Im the culpret, I dont know what Im missing or what I've overlooked. what I originally done was fire my rifle at 100 yrds, it was spot on, then I fired it at 200 yrds without touching the scope, and the impact was 4 1/4 inches low. Since my scope is 1/8 inch at 100 yrds, ...

Re: Big bullet drop

After I shot at 200 yrds I cranked the scope back for 100 yrds and she was right on. Maybe my buddies chronograph was wrong. I'm going to zero my scope for 200 yrds, then shoot it at 100 yrds to see how high the bullets impact the target. My scope is a 2001 Nikon Monarch, that's when they were still...

Re: Big bullet drop

Rick, Same load, all I did was put a plain piece of paper with a one inch dot out to the 200 yrd line, then I put the crosshairs on the dot and pulled the trigger. I fired five rnds and all grouped about one inch, four and a quarter inches below the dot, I didnt make any scope adjustments as I wante...

Big bullet drop

I was at the range this mornning with my Savage model12 in 204 Ruger, my load is a Hornaday 32 gr Vmax and 25 grns RL 10, it was last chornographed at 4,210 FPS average of 10 shots. At first I was shooting at 100 yrd,and put 6 shots into a 0.379 in group. Then I moved to 200 yrds to see how much the...

Re: COAL

I've been reloading a long time mostly .308, .223, .45acp and 9mm. But Im new to reloading the 204 Ruger. On my .308 I load 0.020 off the lands and still have alot of the bullet in the case, but the chamber in my 204 Ruger is pretty long, and the 32 grn Vmax is pretty short, if I loaded the 32 grn V...

COAL

Im trying different loads in my Savage 12FV in 204 Ruger, she doesnt seem to like the 40 gr Vmax bullets so Im going to try the 32 grn Vmax. I measured the length of the bullet which is .640, and the length of the case which is 1.840, together they are 2.480. I then measured my over all chamber leng...

Re: I shot my new Savage 204 Ruger for the first time

Wow, thanks for bringing the coal to my attention, Im so used to shooting a 223, and 308, I didn't think about that. I had so much fun shooting that little son of a gun, and thinking about all the toys that gonna come with this gun that I've been in la la land too much,I better get my head out of my...

I shot my new Savage 204 Ruger for the first time

Last Thurs I was back in Il getting the house ready to sell, and I brought my 204 Ruger along to try at my old range with some shooting buddies. I bought 50 rnds of Fiocchie 40 gr 204's to get her sighted in and just to try her out, it's been killing me since I got the gun to get out and shoot her e...

I got lucky but one small problem

Im in the process of scoping my new Savage 12 FV in 204, I figured Id have to buy a new base and rings for it. I was gonna go with the weaver base and tactical rings, as they've served me well on other rifles. So Im sittin around this morning thinking about it, and it hit me, I have a Leupold 2 piec...

Re: Just got my first 204 Ruger

I want thank you guys for the info, its dually noted. I've found its always easier to seek advice from those who've been there and done that, it gives one a good starting point. I used to hunt all the time, mostly birds, and deer, but when I lost my Springer to cancer it just took it all out of me. ...

Re: Just got my first 204 Ruger

My first thoughts were to use a heavier bullet for longer ranges out to 300 and possibly 400 yrds max, but I guess I was wrong. I'll start out with 32 gr Vmax, and 39gr blitzkings, and see what happens. It's gonna be a while before I get her out though, I still have to get a scope, base and rings fo...

Just got my first 204 Ruger

Last week I bought my first 204 Ruger, a Savage 12 FV, I''ve read a lot of good things about the caliber. Im not new to firearms though, I've been shooting all my life. For the past houndred yrs or so I've been shooting .223's in both AR, and bolt platforms, and .308's useing an M1A, and a Savage 10...

204 Ruger cleaning equipment

I just bought a Savage model 12 in 204 Ruger, so the first things I have to get for it is a cleaning rod, tip, and brush. I've been on line and it seems Dewy is the only one who makes a slotted cleaning tip in .17 cal, everything else is Jags. a jag is no problem for me but I prefer a slotted tip, s...
