Re: Clean / Dirty Powders...
Wow! I never would have guessed that wind would affect 204 bullets moving at the speed they do, over such a short distance. I had not used this gun on the wide open prairie before and had no experience with wind drift on such small bullets. I guess that squirrel I did hit at 277 yards was more of a ...

Re: Clean / Dirty Powders...
This is a Savage left hand HVLP. I have about 250 rounds through it and I clean it about every 20 - 30 rounds. I have been using W760 in my 22-250 for years with no problems but have just started using W748 in the 204. It throws very nicely from the powder measure and seemed to be initially pretty a...

Re: RCBS Plastic Loading Funnel
Thanks to all. Never occurred to me to raid the laundry room for an anti-static sheet. The wife is away right now too! If some of you have tried them there is likely nothing on them that would contaminate gun powder. As usual an abundance of good suggestions for a solution. I will look for a ...

RCBS Plastic Loading Funnel
I recently purchased a RCBS small calibre plastic funnel to replace the old cheap plastic kitchen funnel that I have been using for years. The tube on the latter was turned to easily fit inside the mouth of a K-Hornet case but in the 204 it was a bit snug and if I was not paying close attention some...

Re: Clean / Dirty Powders...
Did anyone that has used W748 find that it affected accuracy in your 204 more quickly than other cleaner burning powders. I have just started testing loads with it and while it grouped reasonably well out of a clean barrel, (.607"with 39 grain Sierras and .524 with 30 grain Bergers) point of im...

Re: My brass seems to be too soft
FT: I have been using powdered graphite for years on the inside of the case necks before I re-size them and it has never caused a problem with powder ignition. I apply it with one of those three brush sets in a small tray designed for this task. Powdered graphite is very messy though, particularly i...

Re: My homemade rifle rest
Outlaws; A lot of woodworking tool supply outlets carry handwheels for just a few bucks. There is an outfit called Busy Bee Tools in Canada that has them but I'm sure there are plenty of stores and online sites in the US that could supply one as well. Nice job on the jack rest. As Red Green always s...

Re: 32gr Blitzking, need base numbers for loading
I have used 30 grains of BL-C2 as well, with a 32 grain Sierra Blitzking and CCI 400 primers. The one group I shot with it was .643" at 100 yards. This powder is over 20 years old however and seems to produce erratic results with heavier bullets.

Re: Prairie dog birth rate?
Black-tailed prairie dogs are monoestrous which means they only have one litter a year. All females may not be bred at the same time however so the breeding season may last for a month or more. There is also some evidence in ground squirrels that if the female is not initially fertilized or the firs...

Re: The 20-250imp.'s First Kill.
20-250AI; I see from the picture that you are a left hand shooter. I own two No. 1's for the same reason. What kind of tuning did you do to your gun to get it to group properly and how did the 39 grain Sierras and the 40 grain Hornadys perform on coyotes? Did they leave large exit holes in the pelts...

Re: Dogs dog huntin"???
I used to follow a Arizona predator site a few years back where one of the posters (and later the owner of a similar site) John Henry, used a large dog (a wolfhound if memory serves me correctly), as a decoy. He would stake the dog nearby on the end of a short leash so it could not chase the coyote ...

Re: Elite 4200 6X24X50, 30mm
Canis: I have one of these scopes albeit with a 1 inch tube and a 44 mm objective. It is a nice clear scope and the top end magnification poses no problem for me. They are a bit longer than a comparable Leupold scope and not as good quality in my opinion. I don't want to just hit a coyote, I want to...

Where Have All the Primers Gone, Long Time Passing?
Are you guys in the US having trouble finding CCI or Remington primers? I can't find any in the gun stores around here (Alberta, Canada) to save my soul. I may have to make a run to Cabelas just so I can keep shooting the 204 this winter.

Varmonter; Have you got a link to that site you were looking at. I checked Leupold's site and they state in their custom section that they can only put illuminated reticles into scopes that are designed for them in the first place. I hope you are right! An illuminted reticle Leupold would go very ni...
