Re: 40gr berger loads

Which powders do you have at your disposal? This is second- or third-hand, but if the post on http://www.predatormastersforums.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1877693 can be believed, here is some data from Walt Berger: 204 Ruger Bullet Powder Start Load Approximate Start Velocity ...

Re: 223 bullet and powder choices

H-335 powder should use mag primers for best ignition. I use CCI450s for all of my .223 loads regardless of powder, simply because the thicker cups handle pressure better. Anyway, OP, picking a powder for the .223 is tough because there are SO MANY terrific powders to choose from - Tac, Varget, H33...

Re: fps and preasure

The two don't correlate strongly enough to be useful. There are too many other variables - in chamber, bore, rifling, etc. - to let you draw any strong conclusion between the two other than "using the same gun, bullet, primer, and powder, load A is faster than load B, so A should have a higher ...

Re: Trimming brass in the 204???

For years I have been using the Lee length gauge and cutter to trim all my cases. Unfortunately they do not make one in 204 Ruger, not even a custom one. When the 204 Ruger came along, I did the same thing using a 22-250 Rem Lee gauge. I machined it down to .204" diameter and screwed it into a...

Re: Your favourite bore cleaner

Wipe Out foam. Spray, let sit...wipes out copper, lead, powder. Doesnt stink up the joint. Good stuff. I like that stuff, too. My Savage seems to have an awfully rough bore, it fouls like CRAZY, and takes a TON to get it all out. So, I'm happy to do the Wipe-Out, letting it sit for a few hours each...

Re: Accuracy issues with Savage Model 10/110 Predator

Avagadro, talk to us about your cleaning regimen.

My Savage 12FV has a very rough bore, fouls quickly, fouls badly, and groups open up quite a lot. And, it takes a LOT of work to get all of the copper out.

Re: Too much scope for a 10/22?

I've used scopes from cheap to moderate on mine, and never had a problem. However, parallax is an issue: Centerfire scopes have their parallax set for a longer distance than that at which you usually shoot .22lr, and that can lead to issues. Rimfire scopes tend to have the parallax set at shorter di...

Re: Lets talk suppressors

I wonder if the speed of the 204R would shorten the life of a can? Rick, that sure is a nice table Dave is shooting from, do you have any info on it. Not at any reasonable rifle barrel length. With the .223, once your barrel gets down to 10" or less, THEN the amount of still-unburned, hot part...

Re: Bullet damage!

Im so new I cant really tell if the die crimps or not. ITs RCBS model 10302. Ill look it up when I get home, but for the record would you explain a little what this crimping is about? If it is crimping, it squeezes the top of the case in a tiny bit, in an effort to hold the bullet more securely. Cr...

Re: Bullet damage!

No, the neck diameter is set by the internal dimensions of the die, not by your force. Now, the *internal* dimension of the neck is determined by the combination of the internal dimension of the die, *AND* the thickness of the brass in the neck of the cartridge. If your brass is particularly thick, ...

Re: Redding dies instructions?

I'm using their 2-die neck sizer set, and the instructions are pretty standard. Screw the sizer die down until it meets the shellholder for full sizing, or back it off for partial. For the seating die, screw it down to the shellholder if you want a crimp along with seating, or back it off a turn if ...

Re: OCW shooting distance for the .204 Ruger

You got lucky! By that I mean, lucky the bullet did not lodge in the barrel. That would be a real PIA! Indeed, that would have been inconvenient at best, and potentially disastrous at worst. But, the bullet didn't budge bit. I wouldn't have even thought the primer had fired, except that the bottom ...

Re: OCW shooting distance for the .204 Ruger

Well, I went out today, new scope, better targets, new batch of rounds. Same Nosler 32 grain/Benchmark combo. Since loading to listed COAL didn't work well, I seated these .020" off of the lands. Overall, the groups were a little smaller, but not much, still about 1.2" average. I would sus...
