Re: Powder's for 45acp
Bullseye is my choice for 45 ACP. Yes, it's dirty, but at the size of the charge a pound of it lasts forever. N310 quite fast, so is light on the charge as well. I just tested from 3.8 to 4.0 grains (the range that VV had listed) under a 200 grain cast bullet, and all of them cycled the pistol and ...

Re: Large-objective scopes on Coopers
Has anyone found the comb on the straight stock Coopers low for a large-objective scope? Haven't tried a Cooper, but with a large-objective scope, it seems like no stock really has a high enough comb. That's why expensive aftermarket stocks come with adjustable cheek risers, and why cheepskates lik...

Re: 39gr. Bullets
I basically used the 40gr load data, but found the best-shooting load fell short enough of the 40gr's max. that it was of no concern. Trial and error. I also wanted 32gr. V-Max to be the best shooter in my 1:12" (makes sense...right?) but 4 powders, and 4 bullets later...it was the 39gr. SBKs ...

Re: Powder's for 45acp
There are so many powders for .45 that it is silly. Titegroup, universal, unique, the "dots", true blue, zip, wst, and those are just a small teaser of what will work.
My favorite is n320. Clean, accurate, terrific metering. Currently hard to find!

Re: i need a clean burning powder !
If it's clean you're after, VihtaVuori holds the crown. I haven't used 3N37/8, but I've used N310, N320, and N340, and they are as clean as it gets. Very accurate as well. Downside is price and availability. I wish that NAMMO would have gotten off of their derrieres and put the VV plant back into fu...

Re: Extending The Chamber On A .204
Have you checked your barrel to see how far out you can seat the bullet? Factory .204 barrels typically have such a long throat that you may be able to do it already...

39 gr. Sierras over RE-10X right up at the max end of the range makes my rifle haaaaaappy.

Are using small patches or do you cut regular ones down?
Any specialty ones out there?

Re: Development of .204 Ruger and Choice to use 223 Magnum
Rationale? Whoever said that cartridge designers needed a rationale for their choices? :hic: That being said, cartridge design is a compromise. If you want to design a cartridge that fits in .223 magazines, uses the .223 bolt face, and still gets 4,000 FPS, you need more case capacity behind it than...

Re: Curse those Fins and their superior powder-making abilit
Even if people aren't buying to resell, three things are definitely happening: 1. People are buying to replace their stores that they used up over the last 18 months, which means they're still trying to buy more than they would under normal conditions. 2. People now realize that they need more of a ...

Re: Curse those Fins and their superior powder-making abilit
Such problems we have, lol! But some are worth the pain, LOL!!! I'd do $40 a crack for 0.2!! you may find that you spend more $ by searching powders/recipes than just buying what works so well. But its still fun!!! It is fun, indeed! Any of the powder that I won't keep for the .204 will either get ...

Speaking of N540...
While loading with it yesterday, my powder measure started having trouble getting the powder out. On the next throw, nothing came out. Next throw, nothing. Nothing. I started to unscrew the drop tube, and all of the backed-up powder came out. I looked in the drop tube, and found nine little granules...

Curse those Fins and their superior powder-making ability...
Last week's experiment with 40-grain Bergers and 8208 XBR was quite disappointing, so I picked up a pound of Vihtavuori N540 yesterday on a whim, loaded up a bunch of rounds, and tried them out today over my rifle's favorites, 39-grain BlitzKings. Out of the seven charge weights from minimum to maxi...
