How are you controlling neck tension?
What I see in those groups (very good, by the way)....is neck tension is raising it's head.....hence, the occasional flyer.

Re: .223 AI
Easy to do, especially on a Savage because you can set your headspace with the barrel nut. Start off with the LEE 223 AI dies....they work. Pros of 223 AI: 8 to 14% more speed You have probably trimmed your last piece of brass (the 40 degree shoulder does not allow much brass stretch). Fireforming -...

Re: current custom builds
Builds? ha....always looking for parts n pieces. Picked up a 110 single shot 2 weeks ago. Sent money for a 308 BVSS-S (flat back action) - should be here next week. New 224 Rock barrel on the way - will finish at 28" with a 0.810 muzzle diameter - no clue what I am going to chamber it in. Haggl...

Re: Firearm insurance
Custom or not....replacement price adds up quick. Most of my rifles have optics on top.....that are worth more than the rifle! Both of my 6.5x55 AI Savages would cost in excess of 2500 to replace. No, I do not have that much in them....but to replace them....yes. 30" stainless, high quality bar...

Re: Scope for heavy recoil
Because I look at these items when I consider building a rifle.....have you considered (over what you have now): Cost per box of factory ammo? Cost per round to reload (brass, bullets, powder)? How far you REALLY will be shooting this caliber? In my opinion, and the opinion of my wallet, the 338 Lap...

Re: Turning Savage .270 win into 6mm Rem
Yeah, as long as you have FACTORY new ammo, you can use those as guages. What you MAY need is a 800# Gorilla. Some of them are a Muh-scratcher to break the nut loose. I have had to cut several off with a dremel. And take your scope mounts OUT. Or you CAN bugger up the reciever threads when removing...

Re: XDM 40 Cal
I have a XD subcomp for i use for CC. Would i lose too much velocity pushing those out of my short barrel or would I be best suited with a lighter bullet? What recipes are you guys using for your .40s? Won't lose much velocity, some, but not much. I use Hodgdon HS-6 in everything. 9mm, 40 S & W...

Re: Turning Savage .270 win into 6mm Rem
Not much actually. No need to change the bolt head either.
Need a barrel nut wrench. McCree Precision makes THE best.
Buy or rent a go/no go gauge set.
Remove barrel nut, take off 270 barrel, clean action, install new barrel, set headspace, tighten barrel nut, and check headspace.

Re: 2012 Wolf License
Wolves or other creatures, don't care about WHAT the bunny is hung up on....when they hear the sound, see the wiggle....they WILL come!!!! That last part seems to be pretty true of all hunting species. For example, it is well documented that the two legged wolf throws all caution to the wind when h...

Ramos - your generousity is very kind. I believe the price of the class, spread out over 20 participants, will cover the costs. At this point in time, I am going to kindly decline your offer. Through buy, sell, trades I have done over the last 10 years, I have the initial consumables covered. With m...
