Re: Hawkeye Joe

Clover shooter My 6.5 Creedmoor Creedmore is a Cooper Montana Varminter with a special order 24" barrel. Standard length is 26". I'm getting 2850 fps with Hornady Factory 120 grain Amax ammo. They're by far the most accurate factory ammo I ever shot. Never did get hold of the 140's. I pick...

Re: What are the bases and Ring choices for Cooper model 52's?

I hear ya. Not much to choose from for Coopers. I went with the light weight Talley one piece ring and base on my model 22 Cooper(no rail connecting the two rings). That's all I could find at the time in stock. I think I had two choices and the other one was out of stock. So far they've been great a...

Re: Hawkeye Joe

I took the top spot at two club matches last weekend. I won both the NRA 3 position and 300 yard prone with a deadly pair of Savages. The Predator is a .204 and Thumbhole a .223 with 8 twist Wylde chamber. It was a great time and surprisingly a full line of shooters including a certain Marine sniper...

Re: 300 yd groups

I spent the whole summer of 07 and part of 08 trying to shoot a 5 shot bug hole at 300 yards with my LRPV.I was able to get 4 shots touching numerous times. 5 was VERY elusive and only accomplished once or twice. I finally accomplished my next goal with 6 shots from my Cooper in 6.5 Creedmoor "...

Joe, That looks like a nice range. Is that where they hold the egg shoots? Any matches the first few weeks in July? :chin:

Re: Hawkeye Joe

I'm still here.. Been busy at work and working on my home. Buddy and I are doing fine. Luckily I had a giant can of recession repellent. Didn't work very well on my stocks though!! Haven't killed anything but targets lately because we kept the off-hand match going all winter long to get our fix. The...

Re: annealing .204 brass

I've been using Ricks method for a few months now and recouped several hundred by doing so. I was scrapping (but saving) whole lots of 100 when I got one split neck. My WW brass usually split after about 7 reloads when fired. They now neck size with ease. Never did any accuracy test on annealed 204 ...

Re: 204 and barrel length

My 26 inch barreled .204 gives me about 275fps more than my 22 inch barrel using identical loads. When I ordered my Cooper with a 24 inch barrel, they told me the accuracy guarantee is only good for 22 inches or longer. :chin:

Precision Shooter had a good article on a Remington switch barrel in the March 09 issue.

Re: looking for a match rifle

Thanks for all the info. I finally made a decision on a caliber and rifle. The Remington 700 with 5R barrel is out because of it's 1-9 twist. I did like that rifle, It fit me perfect.. Now the potential of the 6.5 Creedmoor in a match rifle definitely has my attention! It looks like the 6.5 is the wa...

Re: Yugo mauser

They're nice rifles. But after about 50 rounds, it starts to hurt without a recoil pad. If you control barrel heat, I would think it should shoot sub MOA at 100 yards. It does walk a bit as the barrel heats up, which you can see in the target I posted. Not sure how well it will shoot surplus ammo th...

Re: looking for a match rifle

I'm currently using my Savage Predator rifle and the flimsy plastic stock is NOT sling friendly. Besides, that's my hunting rig. I actually shot one of smallest groups at last Sundays 300 yard belly match. Too bad it was the LOWEST score of the day  . The 30mph cross wind took me for a ride an...

looking for a match rifle

I'm in the market for a new rifle to shoot 300 yard prone and three position matches. The rules are, any sight/scope,any caliber and NO rests, sling only. One thing I do know is it won't be a gas gun! I would also like it buck the wind better than the 20 cal 35gr Bergers, and be easy on the wallet to...

Re: AR-15 twist rates

I've used Varget,Benchmark, and H335 in AR style gas guns without any issues at all. On the firing line, use whatever powder your rifle likes. Now if your on the front line, things might be different. Only testing with your style of shooting will give you true results. My favorite gas gun .223 loads...
