ETB Not sure if these numbers will be of any value to you, but some time ago I did some fired case headspace measurements for my Rem 700 VLS. I did a sample of 20 Win cases which had been loaded 2 times. The load was Sierra 39BK, Rem 7 1/2, 27.5 grs H4895. To get the measurements, I used a Stoney P...

WHISTLEPIG Being a big Sako fan (I own several older models), I feel your pain. I have no direct experience with Cooper rifles. I did get a chance to fondle and drool on a Montana Varminter at our local Sportsman's Warehouse. Too bad it was in .223 Rem (nothing against .223, I already own several)....

I agree, it sucks what you had to go through.......but, apparently, Remington fixed the problem. The alternative would be you still have a crappy shooter.....what would you do with it after it's been to the factory already for repair  It would be difficult to sell it and unload it on some oth...

I'm with acloco on this one. I also use Imperial sizing die wax. I believe Rick also uses Imperial. Easy to put on and easy to take off. It also seems to clean up the case a bit in the process. I apply with my finger and thumb and remove with a shop towel. All the carbon & soot from the neck com...

skipper I have shot H4895 with the 39 SBK with very good results. However, for this test, I wanted to try a new jug of AA-2015 since I had such great results a month ago with a 15 year old jug of 2015. Funny thing, for both the old and new AA-2015, 25.2 grains shot by far the best. However, for the...

.204 Brass Observations Range Update

As promised in my previous post, I have some range data to report. I made it to the range today and managed to shoot 50 rounds of a known good load using Nosler brass. I did not get a chance to shoot the loads in the Remington brass as the wind came up and it started to snow. Had to hurry and pick u...

Erl I'm in total agreement with RiO . We shoot a lot of .17HMR ammo (3 - 5,000 rounds) during Sage Rat season here in Central Oregon. I clean my custom Ruger 77/17 (has a Green Mountain Match heavy, fluted barrel) every night after I get home from the Sage Rat patch. Since I've never not cleaned it...

WHISTLEPIG Nice photo....definitely at peace with the world :D . Just got back from the range. Looks like the weather is improving but still a bit breezy. Supposed to be 71 deg tomorrow. So, you know where we're headed  . I shot some Nosler 34 FBHP's through the 700 VLS this morning. By the w...

Hey WHISTLEPIG , Wow, are we envious over this direction. Haven't gotten the call from the ranch yet, so guess we have to wait a little longer. As RiO pointed out, it snowed like crazy for an hour or so this morning. SUCKS  ! Where did you go, south of Gowen Field? Or are there any places left ...

acloco Nice shootin' bud :D especially at 300 yds. I have trouble seeing that far let alone shoot a group like that. We don't have a 300 yd range locally just a 200 yd berm. When the wind, rain and snow finally settle down in these parts, I am going to try some 200 yd groups. Keep us posted. Rgds, ...

blk223 I agree wholeheartedly with Rick in Oregon . I also have all those calibers you speak of (except the Swift) and shoot them frequently. But not as frequently as the .204. The great thing about the .204, if you have a HB varmint model, is the recoil is almost non-existent. You can actually see...

Hutch20 First of all, welcome the 204um. Bunch of great folks lurking about the forum and with most, if not all, the answers to your questions. You might want to do a search through past posts. The question you asked has been asked and answered a number of times. But, here's the short version, most...

wadevb1 Sorry to hear you picked up a Remington lemon. However, and maybe I'm just lucky, I bought a Rem 700 VLS in .204 Ruger last fall. All I did to it was float the barrel and adjust the trigger down to 2.5 lbs. With my handloads (and when I'm shooting good :D ), it will shoot Hornady 40 V-Max's...

I'm not sure about Winchester adding 5 bad ones to every bag......I bought a bag of 100 about 5 months ago that had nine cases which had "crinkles" in the necks. In fact, when I first looked at them, they looked like grease dents from putting too much case lube on the outside of the case n...
