Early morning Red

With the temps around 0 degrees and snow on the ground, figured it would be a perfect time to try some calling. Got to the field around 6:00am. Set the Foxpro Fury out about 75yds. from me and started playing "Lightning Jack". About 4 min. in,I spotted eyes about 250yds. straight out. The w...

Re: IMR 8208

I use 8208 in my Savage 204. Load data is 27.4 gr. behind a 39gr. B/k touched off by CCI BR 4 primer. Deadly on ground hogs and prairie dogs!!

Re: Help me win a recruit .................

Not sure what your buddy's budget is. I think the best bang for the buck would be a Savage Model 12. I have the LRPV and man does it shoot. The down side is it's heavy.Has the target accutrigger which can be adjusted very light. Also has the 1-12 twist. Mine will shoot the 40's also. I have taken gr...

Re: How do you guys work up your loads?

Bill K pretty much summed it up. You will be surprised how much tighter your groups can be by playing with the seating depth. Some barrels like a bullet to jump and some like them on the lands.

Re: Four more pasture poodles down in WV

Nice! Its good to see green grass lol, its still brown with some snow in my neck of the woods. Did the lady give any indication as to why she didn't want a semi auto used on her property? Seems kind of silly if she wants the hogs dead. I think that her concept of semi auto AR's is people pulling th...

Four more pasture poodles down in WV

Well since I could not go to the range to continue load development on the Savage 204,figured I would take out my frustrations on some hogs. Went to a new farm that I recently acquired hunting rights to. I was talking to the land owner and she said absolutely no semi auto rifles allowed. I told her ...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

Just an FYI, when developing a load, you must be absolutely sure that each time you squeeze the trigger, you are executing your best shot. You may end up chasing loads, when the groups size is more a function of your shooting. Good rests. No wind. Consistent shooting form. Ask me how i learned thsi...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

Immortal, I have a question, Do you weigh each charge on a Beam Balance Scale or are you using an Electronic Scale? I hope you are using a Beam Balance Scale as it will allow for much tighter groups than an Electronic Dispenser / Scale combo. I have both but I cannot rely on the Electronic one to b...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

With respect to the dies and trying to limit inconsistencies in the case, there are several ways that you can go. The most common is the basic full length or neck size dies that resizes the outside of your case (the entire case for full length die or just the neck for the neck size die) on the upst...

Re: Savage 204 range report.... Feedback please

Thanks Jim. It's starting to make sense now. Right now I'm just using standard RCBS dies. Non bushing I'm pretty sure. Is there one brand of dies that is better than the others?

Sorry again for the noob questions. Want to try and do things right.
