Hunting boot advice

I realized that I needed to upgrade my gear for future cold weather hunts out west. I am set for clothes. The last piece of the puzzle is a pair of dedicated hunting boots. I keep seeing Irish Setter boot products (part of Red Wing Shoes) getting great reviews. This is the one I was looking at. Iris...

Re: 2009 Pronghorn Antelope Hunt

Once we filled the 2nd tag we stopped by the hotel...picked up our stuff...and drove straight to Hot Springs, SD to process the meat. Hit a much warmer Wind Cave Park the next day...... A beautiful, wide open space. http://brainonsigs.smugmug.com/photos/669093958_YYaE5-L.jpg http://brainonsigs.smugm...

2009 Pronghorn Antelope Hunt

I flew in from Saint Petersburg, FL to meet up with my good friends and hunting partners Ken and Vern Lunde. We drove from the Rapid City, SD airport straight to Moorcroft, WY. The morning of the hunt (10/1) was below freezing temperatures, 40 mph wind and snow flurries. This Florida boy was a tad c...

Re: Pronghorn rig fit for action.

Thanks for the well wishes and compliments. If it shoots like my other Coopers I will be thrilled. I am not a novice at hunting but this will be my 1st pronghorn hunt. The good news is that I am joining two very experienced pronghorn hunters who fill their tag every year. I'll post target groups soo...

Pronghorn rig fit for action.

Cooper M52 Excaliber in .25-06. Since falling off the deep end for Coopers, I have always been intrigued by a Cooper repeater. I had an opportunity recently to grab one in the Excalibur version. It has a few upgrades that are no longer an option. This includes the silver, stainless, fluted barrel. I...

Installed the new stock...took all of 15 seconds. The MagPul CTR-N is rock solid with zero rattle or looseness inherent to many collapsable stocks. The CTR-N is a drop in replacement for AR15s with non-mil-spec buffer tubes (RRA, Bushys, etc). The CTR-N comes with the rubber buttplate attached (this ...

New varmint toy. (Update with new stock).

The rifle: RRA Varmint upper with a 20" bull barrel in a 1:8 twist mated with a spare lower from a RRA Elite CAR. Call me crazy but I am putting another collapsable stock on it. Why put a collapsable stock on a precision rifle? 1st reason: I go on several prairie dog shoots a year. My main rifl...

I remember the first time this flatlander (born and raised in St.Petersburg, FL) who has a spent lot of benchshooting went to South Dakota for his first P-dog shoot. Some eye openers: 1) Shooting down from a bluff into a P-dog town....I took a shot...missed badly...and asked my buddy to range/confir...

Fatty: No flame intended at all, but seriously, if variable scopes indeed DID change POI, do you really think Leupold would be selling literally thousands of variables to both the military (SEALS, SOCOM, Infantry, USMC) and hundreds of thousands of civilian shooters (including me) for all these yea...

The perfect concealed carry...a dash of this...a pinch of th

After years of concealed carry and switching weapons/holsters/mag carriers/belts, I have reached concealed carry nivana. My recipe: Weapon : HK P2000SK (.357 Sig, V3 configuration). I am a firm believer in polymer now that I have conceal carried thru 5 Florida summers. This HK conceals well. I love ...

Thanks. I take it a 40mm Leupold would fit with medium rings? Low or medium will both work. A friend and hunting buddy of mine (Lunde on this forum) prefers the medium rings. He mention that the eye relief can be affected if you go too low. I trust Ken since all his advice to me has been spot on ov...

Cooper Varmint Man, What kind of sand bags and stand is that? Cabela's has something that looks close to it, but not the red knobs...and their rear bags don't seem as big. Also, on the Phoenix with the 50mm Leupold, are those Medium hight rings? The bag is a Protektor bag (#13): http://www.sinclair...
