Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!
Mike, I fired 4 rounds initially and was able to extract the empty case. Then for the next 5 rounds, it would fire and I can open the action and the empty case would still be in the chamber. I used a cleaning rod to push out the empty case from the front of the barrel. I haven't tried to extract a l...

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!
I FINALLY had a chance to take the new rifle out for a quick session at lunch today. Unfortunately, I couldn't shoot that much because it wouldn't extract fired rounds. It started out well and I shot 4 rounds sighting in and then it would extract. I borrowed a cleaning rod and slightly tapped the ca...

Re: I did a very bad thing
I took her out again today and tried using some shims. It seemed to really help. Here is what I ended up with: http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q284/WYP11/Rugershim_zpse7004d7a.jpg My best 3 shot group at 100 yards: http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q284/WYP11/Rugertargetbest_zps75addb11.jpg Most...

Re: I did a very bad thing
I finally was able to take the rifle out for a quick session. Sorry for the crappy iphone pics. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q284/WYP11/Ruger3_zps87d2901f.jpg Here's an initial 3 shot string at 100 yards using Hornady factory ammo. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q284/WYP11/Ruger1_zps4559a8...

Re: CCI small primers anywhere????
I think it's all about timing and luck. I was in a local gun store and they received a shipment of CCI 400's. I grabbed a box. Then today I took my new Ruger #1V to the range and they got a case of Remington 7 1/2's so I grabbed a couple boxes.. Now I have 3000 primers so should be good for a little...

Re: 20 VT reloading question
Rick, Finally got the reloading dies from Todd and just prepped 100 cases. Todd told me to run the new 221 FB cases through the body die then the run it through the neck die. I have the TIN 226 bushing. Two problems happened: 1) the decap pin broke on one of the cases. It seemed as if the primer hol...

Re: 20 VT reloading question
Thanks for all your help Rick. I'm pretty sure Todd mentioned what you said about the bushing but he was talking so fast I didn't get all of the info. :) I keep checking the UPS tracking status and the Cooper is still on the brown truck out for delivery to my FFL. I did pickup the Ruger #1 though an...

Re: 20 VT reloading question
Thanks Rick. I got the Redding bushing from Todd along with the match s die set. I'm not sure if it's titanium. Todd did say I didn't have to lube it. At least that what I thought he said. As for primers, I was hoping the 400's would be ok. No one has any other primers in stock. Can't even back orde...

20 VT reloading question
I finally scrounged up 100 CCI 400's and have all components to load. I purchased new Remington 221 Fireball brass and wondered if you guys lube prior to running them through the neck die. I purchased a match S neck die set from Todd and I could have sworn he said not to lube before neck sizing. Als...

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!
Just two more days till I get both rifles!!!! I ordered a Lupy 6.5-20 LR with VHR and it will be here on Monday as well. So all ready to mount scopes and take them out for a break in session I also called Todd at Woodchuck den on Wednesday and ordered dies and a Harrel powder measure. I was able to ...

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!
Wow ok, never knew about the rock chucks. May have to search for them now. :D BTW, Kalifornia is getting pretty bad about hunting. The state changed the name of Department of Fish and Game to Fish and Wildlife. They had scheduled a varmint hunter information seminar in uber liberal city of Davis. Pr...

Re: New 20 VT rifle in the way!
Bodei,
My first varmint kill was a woodchuck I shot in upstate NY. That was so exciting! I shot it with a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe that I had worked for by painting my mom's kitchen.
Too bad there are no chucks in Cali.
