I'm back for round two

Hi everyone. I'm sure nobody remembers me but about a year ago I just started to reload for my .204 when my gun was knocked over on to the wooden shooting bench while on the bi-pod. Previous to that I could cover 5 factory 39 SBK's with a dime, after I couldn't cover a 5 shot group with an orange no...

Re: How do you guys work up your loads?

Thanks for the help guys but working on a load is on the back burner right now. My groups with my go to factory ammo are shifting just about every time I take the gun out to shoot. I had the stock bedded and it didn't help, so now the scope is off the the manufacture to see if that is the problem. I...

Re: Working up load need some advice

My gun has never really liked the 32's but loves the 39's and 40's. Factory Horn. 40's will usually shoot around .5 in. I have tried cci small rifle, cci small rifle mags, and cci BR-4's. I was not able to load anymore rounds to shoot today but did shoot some factory Fed. 39's. I was shocked. This a...

Working up load need some advice

In the last few weeks I've been slowly working on finding a good load for my Savage .204. Given the current state of anything shooting related the only powder/bullet combo I have on hand is Ramshot Tac and Hornady 40gr bullets. With factory Federal 39 SBK's I can cover 5 shots with a nickle, factory...

Re: How do you guys work up your loads?

I like to start working loads up, with the bullet seated as recommended in the books or to fit the magazine. After I find one or two loads that seem the most accurate, then I play with the seating depth to find the sweet one. My method, for the most part. Bill K :) This is how I was going to do it ...

How do you guys work up your loads?

Not sure if anyone remembers but a few weeks ago I had some questions about dies for the .204. Well I got the dies ( Lee collet, and Hornady seater with f/l die) and 200 Hornady 40gr came with it. I have some Ramshot Tac powder on had I was using for .223 so I'm going to start with that combo. I've ...

Re: starting to reload .204 have a few ?'s

I would buy the Lee collet die myself and then buy the Forster full length die set. You can buy the Collet die buy itself. This way you can just neck size with the collet die and then when you need to bump the shoulder you have the F/L die in the Forster set. Personally, I am beginning to see and e...

Re: starting to reload .204 have a few ?'s

I have most of the prep tools except the flash hole tool. I'll add that to my list. The Redding deluxe set dose seem to be the best deal. Can someone explain the whole bumping the shoulder thing? I know what it is I just don't know when it needs to be done and how/what tool to do it with. Thanks aga...

Re: starting to reload .204 have a few ?'s

Thanks for the replies. So a Lee neck sizing die and Redding seater die is the ticket. Is the regular seating die ok? Does the comp die make a difference? I'm going to assume that no crimp is needed, right? I crimp my 223 but thats for an auto loader.Do the shoulders get bumped every loading or just...

starting to reload .204 have a few ?'s

Hello, I have had my Savage predator for a few years now and have been very happy with the Federal 39 bk load. I can get under .5 MOA on a good day. Im down to my last box and decided to start loading my own to try and duplicate the Fed ammo. I'm not new to reloading but this will be my first go at ...
