Re: Barrel recommendations

I think everyone is running 8+ weeks right now. A friend of mine has several Remington rifles he shoots in varmint class sillohuette matches. All of them have E.R. Shaw barrels on them and his shooting buddies with Krieger, Bartlein, and Hart barrels are envious of how well they shoot for no more th...

Re: Remington 700 SPS Varmint 26" experiences

My 204 with the oversized 206 barrel should shoot the hair off a gnat's but once I get my 204 barrel on it.

Re: 204 or another donor to eventually convert to 20VT

I've been pondering your same thought path for a while myself. What I've finally concluded it that a 17 Hornet is about perfect for low recoil, flat shooting, accurate, and readily available brass sources.

Re: 204 or another donor to eventually convert to 20VT

Rick,

What I was meaning in saying the 20 VT was based on the 222 is that the original 221 Fireball used the 222 as its parent case, just like every round that uses the same case can be tracked back to the 222.

Re: Re: 204 or another donor to eventually convert to 20VT

Yes I have the 6.5 Grendel AR but don't possess the kahunas to mess with it. I'm happy with the range of coverage I'll have with these two if I ever get to go PD hunting. The beauty of an AR is being able to have multiple uppers for one lower. Haven't seen a 20 VT AR yet, but there are gobs of them...

Re: Re: 204 or another donor to eventually convert to 20VT

WRT to the Remington 700 Fireball actions vs a 204/223 action is the following: - The feed ramps are different and; - The bolt face is different in that the ejector is located near the very top (12:00) position vs. down on the lower side (8:00) for the 223 & 204 models. Will a 20 VT function in...

Re: 204 or another donor to eventually convert to 20VT

The 204 and 20VT are ultimately based on the old 222 REM Mag as the parent case. So anything that chambers a round with the same bolt face; 223, 5.56, 17 REM, 221 Fireball can be a donor rifle. Most anything already chambered in 204 is going to be newer, and will likely not be inexpensive as a donor...

That'll fill the freezer just as much as one with a monster brush pile on his head. And with an old school bow, it's that much for of a trophy. Congrats!

Going true custom!

Since E.R. Shaw is way behind, I asked my smith about getting a blank from Green Mountain for my crappy shooting 700. This afternoon he emails me back and says he should have me a 25" stainless .204 barrel blank in the lathe by mid next week. I might actually have my rifle by the end of the yea...

Stop it! You guys are making me want to unload my 597, give up my aspirations of getting a T/C Benchmark, and build a 10/22!
