Re: My first homemade AR

I think I found the sweet spot. Using H322 from minimum to maximum and Nosler 40g bullets. This keeps showing up for me. At 23.3 grains, the groups just keep coming back. Not the fastest, but 9 out of 10 in the same (big) hole works for me. Still don't know what happened on that one. There was a guy...

I hate collared doves

We are over-run by these pests here in N Colorado. The collareds (eurasian) bastages drive out the mourning doves that I love. So......I set up a bait station at exactly 22 yards at the base of a small pine (good roosting branches) and have undertaken the task of population reduction, one collared d...

Re: another cooper question ?

Coopers do shoot. The 43 yard targets just document that fact. I shot this group in a 20 mph wind at 100 yards. Brand new M38 in 17 Hornet with factory ammunition. If I'd done my job, I'm sure the rifle would comply.

Re: Load for Nosler 40 BT

I too am having some luck with H322. Great groups at 22.5 (Nosler accuracy load) and another node at 23.3. I'm working up to max looking for the best node.

Re: Load for Nosler 40 BT

I'm having better luck with H322. 10x was OK but Hodgdon seems to be doing the job. 22.9 is the best load so far but I'm going up to see what reveals itself.

50 grain Bergers

I picked up a box of 50 grain bergers (#20305) to try out. Now they are discontinued so I'm not going to bother messing with them. If someone wants them, how's $25 to your door sound?

Re: current custom builds

Slowly but surely I'm laying in parts for a 17 TAC. Lower is done. Waiting for the Dtech barrel/bolt/gas block and a LAR OPS-4 upper receiver with BCG. Just got the carbon fiber handguard in from Lancer....really nice. 800 pieces of brass, 100 are formed. Still deciding on the scope. Leaning towards...

Re: Old powder

I can't beat $2.78 but I can go down to $4. Problem with the powder is my buddy shot some really big/slow stuff. His smallest caliber was bigger than my biggest (hmmmm.....I might have said that better :chin: ) I've read that "modern" powders, as in the last 40-50 years, are often treated ...

Old powder

Sadly, I've "inherited" about 20 pounds of various powder left by a friend no longer with us. Most is at least 20 years old and older. Other than just torching it off, what is the best way to dispose of it? I'd be happy to give it away but that would probably be way more trouble than the s...

Bug Holes

I've been working up loads and shot some fair groups today (for me). 24" 1 in 9 with 40 grain Noslers. I see photos of some really nice groups shot by others. When do I get to claim bug holes? Is there an accepted standard? I suppose mine qualify if I find some big bugs.

Re: My first homemade AR

Funny...I too shoot a 6.5. Mine is the .264 LBC. My best 5-shot group at 300 is 1.48" or right at .5" MOA (just like Les guarantees). Shooting the same ammo too. I'm still planning on trying some 130 g VLDs and see how they pattern.

Re: My first homemade AR

Please...feel free to speak for me. I'm a rookie at this type of build. Everything I read confirms what Scott said. I choose a Shilen barrel because they will provide a serial number matched bolt with the barrel. Not only serial # match but headspaced properly. It was pretty much plug and play. I di...
