Re: Freshen, re-chamber or re-barrel 17 Mach IV?
I'd just send it back to Cooper for inspection first, then new barrel in the same caliber. I love mine and how can you go wrong with a "17 VarTarg"?

Manners not with-standing, you gotta give a guy two thumbs for a first post. I, for one, know what load I'm looking at.

Re: Are adjustable gas blocks worth the extra money?
I like them with side chargers so you don't have to chase brass all over the prairie. Shoot, left-hand charge and catch the brass with my right hand.

Re: 204 Accuracy Potential
My 204R AR shoots as well as many of my bolt guns. It's a legit half MOA setup but it's not stock by any means. 24" heavy Shilen, ambi side charger and an adjustable gas block. I shoot it as a single shot most of the time by shutting down the gas block. I agree with Ramos that bolts guns genera...

Re: Re-Chambering a Cooper
I'd confirm that with Cooper now, but they would not send back my old one a year or 2 ago.

Re: Re-Chambering a Cooper
Same issue for me. I believe it's because they can't attest to the integrity of the used barrel on several fronts. They won't even give you back the old barrel because they don't know what it will be used for. That one kind of got my goat. I needed a new tomato stake.

Survivors Guide to Lack of Skippy (LOS)
Sadly, most of us don’t have targets known as “skippy”, “squeaks”, “sage rats” or “gophers”. We live in envy through the posts that show up this time of the year while we wait our turn. I live in prairie dog country but most of them are in city limits these days. I’m not sure which is worse, having ...

Re: Cooper curse
My "trick" was to get my wife shooting. She loves it, and she's deadly. Now I can pick up a Cooper now and then for her. I just snagged a nice 17 Mach IV and will tell her it's a baby VarTarg. She loves "her" VarTarg and now it will have a sibling to keep it company. http://i1359...

Re: 204 AR manufacturers
I built my own using the Shilen barrel/bolt combo. Rock River lower, side charging upper and adjustable gas block so I don't have to chase brass if I'm on a bench. It was more than the $1200 range you want but it shoots great.

Re: Reloading .204 with 1-9 twist
I have a similar barrel and it handles 40 grain noslers just fine. 32 and 39 grain bullets should be no problem as well. I'm a huge fan of H322 and Benchmark in the 204. I shoot H322 in the AR with the noslers and results are remarkable.
Pick a safe starting load and work up to find the sweet spot.

Re: Scope magnification advice
I use Leupold 8.5-25 on all my "little" guns. Not so much for the 50 mm objective as for the extra magnification at the range. That additional 5x seems to really make a difference to my old eyes compared to 20x. Most of our shooting is paper but when we take our squeak shootin trips, we ra...

Benchmark and graphite here as well. I'm also finding success with H322 and 40 grain Noslers in a 9 twist barrel.
