Military calibers

Rick I have a question for you since you're a military guy. I have always heard that the 5.56mm (223) is used SPECIFICALLY because it's more likley to owund than kill and it requires more effort, on the part of our enemy, to tned to their wounded as opposed to collecting their dead. Hence, the use o...

Let's just apply logic

A 40 grain .204 with a MV of 3800 FPS has 657 FPE at 250 yards. Take the SMALLEST of the calibers you mentioned the 270 win shooting a 130 grain bullet with a MV of 3050 FPS. That combo has 1800 FPE at 250 yards. Let me see if I follow, are you saying 657 FPE is better than 1800 FPE at preventing &q...

Mueller

Don't believe anything you read about Mueller scopes. Every testimonial you read is nothing more than a commercial for these Chinese imports. Not even in the same league as a Leupold or Nikon, maybe comparable to those "other" Chinese scopes being hawked here.

Mueller Scopes

It seems Mueller does its advertising via forums like this one. Simple question, if you made cheaps scopes how would YOU explain the low price? Advertising costs amount to a few dollars per scope, not a few hundred. I am very skeptical about a scope review when said review is posted on the website o...

Keep Shooting

I agree 100%. I've never had to shoot a coyote more than once but, from now on, I keep shooting until I know it's dead.

Lost Yote

Glenn

I didn't find anything, no hair, no blood, nothing. I was surpised because it thrashed a bit on the ground after I hit it. The shoulder was the opposite one from the entrance. I am still trying to figure out how I could disrupt the opposite shoulder and not hit vitals.

Coyote Load

I am shooting 39 grain Sierra Blitz King bullets ahead of 28 grains of Varget I am guessing I am getting about 3700 fps and at 175 yards about 800 FPE. I felt like I made a killing shot, the coyote went right down but didn't stay. What concerned me was the lack of any blood. I scoured the area and c...

Lost Yote

I spotted a coyote today from the road so I drove past without slowing then found a parking spot about 500 yards down the road and snuck back. I then had to climb a fence and a big hill and there it was still in the same spot. I laid down and crawled up over the hill and he started to run off. I how...

Yote hunting in KY

There are tons of coyotes in Kentucky. Most of the hunting is on private ladns but permission is easy to obtain. Most of the landowners are cattle farmers who view coyotes as a threat. I deer hunted this weekend and in addition to be covered up with deer I heard coyotes yipping all around me.

My Apologies

I apologize for my questioning of your shot selection.

Bottom line; if you can hold just the right amount low and hit a coyote right between the eyes at 90 yards, in a filed hunting situation-you're a better shot than me.

Hit in the nose

Well a coyote weighs 35-40 pounds and your load has about 900 FPE at 100 yards and about 400 at 500 yards.........I would say yes.

Head Shot

A head shot is one thing, that's not what was claimed, a head shot is reasonable depending on the circumstances. The claim was a shot right between the eyes at 90 yards.

On a final note, I'll bet those hides look great if you only shoot for the head.

Head shot

Sure me too, I'll always take the shot where I have the smallest chance of making a clean kill. 1" high and you miss 1" low and you hit the coyote in the nose, maybe from a bench rest.....never in the field.

I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.

Re: First Coyote

I think any bullet ever made by ANY manufacturer would give you a clean kill when you hit it there.

Just curious, why would you opt for that shot? A coyote turns his head a lot when standing still, the chest however, never moves. I would take the chest shot every time in that situation.
