Re: Finally finished - my new custom 204

Looks great Rick! I'm not real fond of black or dark colored stocks over on the eastern plains of Colorado in mid-July, but your rifle looks good.

Looking forward to the range report.

Re: STARTING LOAD

In my opinion, yes. Using Quickload, even with a 100% fill ratio, you'd still only achieve about 47,000 psi of pressure. You would also only burn ~93% of your powder before the bullet left the muzzle.

Re: tight cases.......

I tend to run my .204 at the upper window, and I F/L size the cases every other firing to prevent problems in the field. Since replacing my barrel, I'm considering just getting a F/L die blank, and ream it to match the new chamber. I have a few rifles that have had custom dies machined, and the resi...

Another small caliber bullet supplier

For those of you who also visit Saubier, you know John and Drew finally got their site up and the business going. I wish them the best.

Re: Universal de cappers

Skipper,

While I admire your handiwork, I'm a bit confused. Why not just use the decapping pin without the expander ball? My Redding dies came with the option of whether to use the expander or not. Maybe this wasn't an option in your case?

Re: If you guys have time....

I haven't received a reply from Al, but did get this bit of interesting input. I say interesting, because this was also a button rifled barrel. "Mike, we ran into this back in the mid-80s with some National Match .308 barrels from a well-known barrel-maker, after the third one they sectioned it...

Re: 4895

IMR is some good powder, and I think it will do just fine. I think another reason, a lot of people believe the "Extreme" hype. We did a lot of testing two summers ago with Extreme powders, mostly Varget pushing 55 grain VMax's from .223's. I'm likely to get tarred and feathered for this, b...

Re: If you guys have time....

I use a Dewey Rod and a Mike Lucas bore guide on all my rifles. The damage in this barrel wasn't done from cleaning! :chin: Yes people damage barrels, metal rods, no bore guides, cleaning from the muzzle end etc. That type of destruction is usually found either at the lands just in front of the cham...

Re: If you guys have time....

Ray, I won't be contacting the rifle maker, it is what it is. I have no ill feelings about it at all. Myself and the fellas I shoot with don't put much stock in any factory barrels to begin with. In fact, this was the last small caliber I own that still was shooting a factory tube. And out of a doze...

Great idea Rick, I'll see if I can't get him the info.

Re: ? on TIR

I may have posted this before, and if I have, sorry. If your TIR is say .006, your runout is .003. Total runout is what you are actually measuring, in other words, the total number of .001 the needle is moving. In this example, you are .003 off center. You take the TIR and divide by two to obtain th...

Re: If you guys have time....

Sorry Glenn, I should have posted a link to the first thread as well, but as you probably saw, it didn't turn out real well, and got a bit ugly. But glad you found it, and were able to get something civil out of it.

Re: If you guys have time....

Thanks fellas. Yes, I've heard all the pros and cons of JB. I also won't argue it. :) I use the JB every 300 rounds, (usually one day in a pdog town). I knew for the last 300 rounds in this rifle, it was severely copper fouling, but would shoot well for about six rounds after a good cleaning. When I...

Re: If you guys have time....

The last time it was scoped was around the 1000 round mark. It appeared fine at that time. It was around 1700, I started noticing much different results than I had grown accustomed to. And let me get this straight, the rifle you were describing....it had rifling missing when it was new??? Mike

If you guys have time....

I've posted an article on another forum of my .204 that is shot out. I've also sectioned the barrel, and posted pics. Rather than repost everything here, I'd like to just provide you a link if I may. Moderators, please delete if this is not permitted. If you have a few moments to check it out, pleas...
