Re: My First Video

We have a few different species, as far as I know they're all Aussie imports and major pests. The ones we have in the South Island are Bennett's Wallaby, North Island ones are smaller species like Damas. Remarkably good eating though, give the back legs a long slow roast and they come up really nice...

Re: My First Video

Do you think around the middlemarch area is worth a look. Always looking for new spots of course! Most places are worth trying at least once! Probably more hares than rabbits if you're going up into the hills around Middlemarch. Highest bunny numbers I've shot are around Cromwell and the hills near...

Re: My First Video

Nice spot :)

Never shot any bunnies around there but cleaned out a mob of goats down in Deep Stream last year, not too far away.

Re: List: Your next 3 guns

Well I have my Savage 12-VLP up for sale as a big heavy varmint rig doesn't really suit the hunting I do, so next up will be something sporter-weight in 204/223/243 or something similar.

Most likely another Savage - the 11-BTH looks good, as does the 10PC.

Re: CZ vs Savage

If I went with the Savage, I would have to upgrade the stock to get rid of the plastic feel. Worth taking a look at the factory non-plastic Savages as well then instead of limiting the comparison to the FV - BVSS, VLP, BTCSS are all laminate/stainless heavy barrel varmint versions. http://savagearm...

Re: Hello and a question on bullet stabilisation

Apparently the Hornady 45gr SP actually stabilise more easily than the 40gr BT as they are a shorter round, I found that quite interesting.

Re: Finally blooded my 204, but thinking about a change anyw

Those were chest shots, wasn't confident going for headshots on the longer ones as it doesn't take much breeze to push a bit offline and give a nasty wound while missing the brain. Chest shot at 80m was pretty instant kill even with the 32gr but I didn't have anything else below 200+ to know exactly...

Finally blooded my 204, but thinking about a change anyway

After a bit of hassle getting it shooting (Burris Z rings for uneven base heights and gunsmith cut off the dodgy off-centre threading and recrowned) my Savage 12-VLP is grouping around 0.5" like it should be, so I finally got to use it! Shot up a few wild goats that were causing some damage out...

+1 to what they said. I think I'm 1.2" high at 100, anywhere in that ballpark works fine.

Re: Scratching my head!!!!

Well this is what i want to shoot but because it is drifting that 6in if i reset my scope will it be still 6in out at 200? Guess i should try! Thanks guys for your always helpful Knowledge. Boomer Think of it in terms of not the bullet drifting left, its the scope pointing right of the line the bul...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hi Geoff, replied to your PM. My 204 is off getting sorted out by my uncle, issue with scope mounts being uneven heights and someone had packed the rear scope ring out with cardboard! Burris adjustable rings should sort it out, uncle said he shot a 16mm group but it was half a metre low at 100m unti...

Re: Savage LRPV 204 Ruger

I love the look and feel of my 12 VLP but haven't got it shooting nicely yet, 2-3" groups! (Hornady 32, 40 and 45gr factory ammo all similar) I've since noticed that for some reason the previous owner had packed a few layers of cardboard and tape under the scope tube in rear ring so I've taken ...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Bipod or backpack for a rest on the ground so not great, but my rimfires shoot better groups than that from the same position. (ie sub-inch at 100m from the 22wmr). Action screws seemed ok, tightened rear ring on scope though. Gave it a good clean and more black crap came out than I was expecting so...
