Squirrels w/Ruger 10/22; CCI Segmented HP
Went out last week and found some Belding's ground squirrels to plink at with my Ruger 10/22. I hit a pair with one shot from about 60+ yards or so. Didn't know I got two until I performed the insepction. Using CCI Segmented 32gr HPs. These knock em dead. Upon impact the bullet breaks into three equ...

Good, now we don't have to beat a confession out of you!dan97526 wrote:Truth be told, I'm probably kidding myself that I'd never shoot this rifle at anything under 400yd.

Re: Cedarville sqeaks trip report
Anyone get out this weekend? I bet it was fantastic! Looking to get ol' Squirrelzilla up to Cedarville again soon. Took the old .22 Ruger out and found some Beldings up in the hills north of me. One shot, two kills at about 60 yards with CCI Segmented HPs. These rounds are awesome for squeaks. Opens...

Re: Use of Hornady 40g V-Max
My Howa 1:12 likes the V-max 40 grainers. There are so many variables involved that its hard to say what the problem is. Usually its easier to find a quick solution than tinker with something that wont work. If a 39 gr. solves the problem, then go with it. I would speculate that the issue is more to...

Re: Fixed power scope for long-range rig?
For hunting, variable is the way to go. Conditions change, range changes, light changes, variable power is ideal to cope with these things. Good luck and read alot of reviews/forums. Let us know what you get, cause my next gun will be a 6mmBR too!

I think you are just getting a run of bad luck on where your shots are hitting. Have you tried 40 grainers on any of em? What kind of bullets are you using?

Re: oregon ?
If you are a waterfowl hunter, then you will be in Nirvana. Pretty much all kinds of western game is within easy reach from squirrels to elk. You're not far from salmon/steelhead fishing as well. No sales tax. You will probably like it.

Re: 223 rate of twist
I was pretty suprised that my 40 grainers held together too, but they did! I've shot Nosler varmageddon, vmax, and sierra blitzkings in 40 grains and all shoot well with my Stag.

Re: 223 rate of twist
Sorry to burst bubbles but I just shot a bunch of V-max 40 grain .223's which I chrono'd at 3400 fps with no stabilization problems. I shot squirrels to about 250 yards with 'em. They group .41" @100 yards at the range. I have a Stag Arms 24" BBL 1:8 twist. Blows the squirrels sky high, BT...

Re: Ground squirrels endangered in Idaho
I can't comment on Idaho law, but something sounds "fishy" about how this went about. What environmental documents are supporting their decision? In California if the Department wants to list something as endangered or threatened it has to be done either legislatively or through the commis...

Re: HELP
I can't comment on the 22 hornet but my .204 shoots like a laser beam and sends squirrels into low-earth-orbit, usually in several pieces. Good enuf for me! Plus you can get one in an AR-15 if you have the budget for lotsa ammo!

Re: Ground squirrels endangered in Idaho
Sounds like you guys need to keep track of you F&G commission's agenda. Contact the commission secretary and have them send you an agenda. They usually post these well ahead of time. Find out when they set the hunting regs and keep an eye out for special agenda items regarding ground squirrels.

Re: Help: LRV Duplex v. Fine Duplex for 17 HMR?
I have a Nikon 4-12x on my .17 and I think its just right. It has a wide field of view at low power and i'm not usually taking shots at anything over 100-150 yds anyway. I have the mildot version. I think a Mueller would be a good choice too.

Re: V-max/Vamageddon comparison
Shot squeaks with both V-max and Varmageddon in the 40 grainers, very comparable in performance. When time comes to buy bullets I will buy whichever is cheaper.
