Re: Silencer for ND Prairie Dog Hunt on 8-20-2012
I think you're right, the law as I read it makes only a few exceptions. Even a Federal trapper wouldn't make the cut. Must have changed somewhere along the way. Guess I'm starting to get old...

I know some Federal trappers that have em in CA. They had to notify DOJ every time they took em into the field. I'll find out more.it was 15 years ago when I worked with that guy.

Really nice stock for a factory gun. How much are these rifles selling for? Think you need to get a decent scope and find a good load to see what it can really do. Please post follow up.

Used the .224 40 grainers on sage rats. As good as a v-max. Pretty much the same thing. It just comes down to economics.

List: Your next 3 guns
What do you think or want to buy? What caliber/model? I have to do this in order to keep the dream alive... My next three; 1) Savage Model 25 in .17 Hornet ... Sounds like just what the ground squirrel doctor ordered. 2) Cooper M21 Montana Varminter in .20 Vartarg ... Awesome cartridge, the Cadillac...

You can have a silencer in California or any Classs 3 stuff, it's just impractical due to over-regulation.

My Howa has a magazine that I use so I seat to 2.26"OAL. You should probably e-mail Legacy Sports International and see what they say. Let me know what you find.

Great story. I'm living vicariously through your adventure. When I move to Nevada, I'll have to think about getting a silencer. Great rifle. Looks like a B&C Medalist stock?

I don't plan on using anything but a neck sizer for the first several loads. So far so good.

Re: cooper rifles?
You should look into a Howa in .204. You can get a 5 or 10 round detachable magazine for them.Song Dog wrote:I dream of a Cooper but will have to do a Kimber.
I inquired just this week about a Cooper repeater in a 20cal and there was no plans. I was bummed.

Re: Sage rats!
We could use some snow, all we have is fire! Lucky for me we are just to the east of all the smoke. Just wish I could get out in a field of squirrels and send em airborne. Its going to be a long winter/fall. I'll be ready for em though!
