Re: Remington 700 sps varmit

I have the Rem 700 SPS stainless varmint in .204 Ruger. After struggling with initial accuracy (damaged crown), I can offer the following observations. The factory stock is very flexible (OK, cheap) and is not free floated so I replaced it with a Boyd's stock. The X mark pro trigger is wonderful fo...

Re: 220 swift owners

savageboy: You're now just reading about the Swift? Well, after shooting and handloading for mine for many years, I'll just add that it is indeed very "old school", takes waaaaay too much powder to git 'er done, hard to come by brass, expensive too, semi-rimmed so it's an oddball to start...

Re: 220 swift owners

220 Swift is major "Old School". There are so many great .22 calibers out there. Hope it does what you need it to. If I was going for a .22 I would look hard at the 22BR. Have fun no matter what caliber a new rifle is always an adventure. I have been reading up on the cartridge and compar...

Re: Remington 700 sps varmit

I have a 700 SPS Varmint and I hated it for quite a while. It was sub MOA... just. I got an HS Precision stock and that helped, the Remington stock is shockingly flimsy. Then my wife got me a Timney trigger which is light and crisp. I worked on my loads and found that the lighter bullets didn't do ...

Re: 220 swift owners

Well I have a rem 700 on order in the swift cartridge. I also ordered a 700 in 204. Let's see if the swift shows up. If not ill get the 22-250. Eventually I will have a few Coopers in my safe. :D

Re: 220 swift owners

Thanks RIO. I have been juggling that thought in my head for quite some time. I would eventually like to own both calibers some day but doubt that will happen. I don't know what intrigues me about the swift.... :chin: My uncle has a 6mm over the more popular .243 maybe being different just runs in t...

220 swift owners

To all those out there who own this caliber please help me out. I have wanted one for years and am considering ordering a Rem 700 varmit SF with the stainless action. The rifle itself is still a current model but is not being produced at the moment according to one of my local gunshops so I will cus...

Re: Need some help please a new guy on the block 204 questio

I really like the Hornady factory 32 grain v-max. I have a Friend who has great luck with the Winchester 32 grain ballistic silvertips on coyotes. You're basically gonna have to buy a box and try it. A 39 gr or 40 gr will handle the wind better then a 32 gr. With that said congratulations on the rif...

Re: Remington 700 sps varmit

I think the VSF with the Tupperware stock is the only one like that in .204 they still make. However, those C-Z 527 Varmints would be hard to beat value-wise for an accurate, well-made varminter. I think that one has been discountinued. The only 2 that are currently made are the sps varmit and the ...

Re: Remington 700 sps varmit

I have a rem. 700 VLS, heavy barrel,.204. I had the trigger tuned and adjusted to 3 lbs. then I sanded out the lumps in the barrel channel. It is really acurate. I shot a .169 group with 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddons. So their is hope if its not accurate right out of the box. I have heard wonderful th...

Remington 700 sps varmit

I have read on this forum that a few had problems with the rifle grouping well. Is this still a problem? I have been looking into a heavier varmit rifle and turning my current savage model 11 into a hunting walk about. In the future I plan on purchasing a Cooper and/or kimber when the finances allow...
