Re: Reverse engineering a factory Hornady 32gr V-Max
Just to clear things up a little, The "Primex" powder being bantered around SMP 746; is a General Dynamics ball powder; being made at the St. Marks, FL plant. Likewise the "Copper Erasing" compound is a Tin Dioxide that has been in the Win 760 &Win 748 powders for (according ...

+1 to RIO.
26.6gr of 748 behind a 55gr bullet is the long-time accuracy standard.

Re: Need a new and better scale.....
For weighing I like Lee's balance scale. But in my F-class loads I use a volume measure/dippers. The weights aren't as consistent as I thought I wanted. But the loads are more consistent by volume.
YMMV

Re: 6.5 creedmore a 1000 yard gun?
Yes, It is easily a 1,000 yard gun. By the numbers I can't remember if it was the 129gr, or the 140gr Amax; But that bullet is supersonic to 1400 yards. By way of comparison, my 308 shooting 175 SMK's go trans-sonic somewhere around 1100. Now I am launching them faster than standard M118LR stuff. Tr...

Re: Just how important is clean brass?
My 308 that I shoot F-class, I haven't reloaded the cases in 8 reloads. No appreciable reduction in case capacity.

Re: Are newer Kimbers really that bad???
Mike, Let me take a stab at what you have "heard". There are alot of Kimber fans over here as well, some I have "worked on" due to the complaints. In the .45 Auto Kimbers, it comes down to usually 2 things. Most of the time, the person is limp-wristing the gun. Can happen with AN...

Re: ar dreams ?
The 3-round burst is due to a cam type addition to the trigger. Those parts(I believe) fall under the control of the NFA. So you gotta buy a $200 stamp, then get approved(current wait is about 8 months). At least in the USA, not something you can just go out and buy. Unless you are shooting a REALLY...

Re: r 15 and bolt gun
I will add that in 2 of my AR's with the NATO chamber, only Lee full length sizing dies are needed. The small base dies are USUALLY only required on something like an FL, or certain HK. They have the chamber scalloped-out for reliability in extreme conditions. With those chambers, at least potential...

Re: ar dreams ?
The standard HBAR or Heavy Barrels are .950" that(depending on set-up) step down to .935-.750" at the gas block. In glancing at my 950, I don't know if 1" would allow room for the gas tube or not; would be close. I am a little confused about the "absorb recoil" comment, I ha...

Re: CFE223 anyone?
Doubleup is correct, The Tin Dioxide that is the "copper fouling reducer" has been in BOTH Win 748 & Win 760, for over 20 years according to the MSDS. CFE223 is one step slower than BL-C(2), due to some lot variations with that, I'm hoping that this is Hodgy's attempt at a replacement....

Re: Difference in Reload Data
Denton Bramwell did a series of testing.... DESPITE what companies tell you, primers have ZERO effect on loadings(in 30-06 and smaller cases). The issues come from 3 main sources. 1) Powder lot variation. If one lot is faster or slower than another. 2) jacket material lot variation. Sometimes the in...

Re: Powder burn rate question
I don't think I understand what you actual question is, as you sort of rambled on about your loading notes... If you found loads that work for all of your listed powders, why are you now lost?? Dr.(?) Denton Bramwell did a series of experiments showing that in less than 30-06 cases, there is NO diff...

I am a BIG fan of the Win 748!
Too bad that things didn't work-out as well as they did for me...
Best of luck trying to get it to come around
Cheers

Re: CFE 223?
Win 748 is 1 step faster than BL-C2, CFE 223 is 1 step slower then BL-C2.
Close your eyes, and pick one of the 3.
