Re: Calling in foxes

Do you have any type of wild dogs there, other than foxes? Is it legal to call and shoot dingos? There are escaped/dumped pet dogs that breed in the wild. Some of these cross with the dingos too. Dingos are a native dog. There is a fence that was built many years ago to keep the dingos out of grazi...

Re: My First Video

I'm up for that - recipe thread. Don't know that there's much you could do with a ground squirrel once the 204's taken to it, but I'm sure there's plenty of ideas out there for lots of other game. We hung the last deer in the neighbours' coolroom for 10 days and had a butcher friend do the hard work...

Re: hope every ones safe

For such a peaceful sounding name - "Mother Nature" can be a nasty b!@¢h. It's terrible seeing how much damage was caused, and that there was absolutely nothing anyone could do to stop it. Hopefully all our members and families pulled through okay and find the strength and support to rebui...

Re: Calling in foxes

The "crows feeding" makes sense. I can see how a fox would be attracted to that.
May even bring in a few crows to pop if the red dogs don't show :D

Re: Calling in foxes

I've found the whistle to be useless on young pups - not familiar with killing rabbits yet. And no good for older ones - too wise and like Bazz said, usually scares them. But at the right age it's very effective. I did a quick look up the top of my paddock last summer and spotted a fox running into ...

Re: Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

Hopefully it was a sick one that had already died. We see wedgies fly over once or twice a month. Never seen any harass the lambs though. Probably more common further north. But a local guy I was talking to last week said he saw a stranded lamb (wrong side of the fence) and made a mental note to gra...

Yep. Looks like ya caught him - red handed
A local sheep farmer told me he's seen foxes grabbing lambs that haven't even hit the ground yet. I don't think they intend helping the birthing process by pulling them out. Cheeky buggers.

I guess I could start by mounting about a dozen skulls. Then when she loses it, I'll take down half and we've got a compromise 8)

Re: Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

Ozfox - Looks to be some nice colour in those pelts. More red than I've seen for a while.
Ya don't always get big numbers, but every dead one makes a difference.
Young dumb pups out soon :D
Keep at 'em

Should be no trouble with the .204 Clint ;)

Boiled and bleached?

I'd never thought much about collecting trophies (missus wouldn't have a bar of it). But at some stage I've gotta man up my man cave.

Re: My First Video

Sounds good Bazz. Got any deer recipes to share? Got 2 hanging in the neighbour's coolroom to cut tomorrow. MMM can't wait.

Sorry about getting off topic there Geoff. Been back out with the camera lately?

Re: Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

I've been out a couple times in the last month and yep - those crops are too high. The last night out we saw half a dozen foxes in the first half hour. All were on the run, and didn't even think about stopping. Looking forward to the crops coming off. Might do a few all nighters. I'll bet the Cooper...

Re: My First Video

Them along with Possums mean two of our worst pests are Aussies! ;) We have a similar problem here with Kiwi pests - my boss, the missus' boss, previous owner of our paddock   I tried a wallaby burger when we did a trip down to Tassie - Amazing!! Couldn't get the recipe off the chef thoug...

Wallabies?? In NZ?
Didn't realise you guys had any there. Do you know if they're the same species we have?
Kangaroo Island (just off the coast from Adelaide) is plagued with them. Should've been called Wallaby island
