Re: Grooves in Brass

P.S.
The spent primers were a lot harder to de-cap than normal

Re: Neck Lube

Mega Good thinking re neck tension. This is kinda what I was wondering about. I'm sure taking material off the jacket will affect accuracy, but as I'm fairly new to it all, wasn't sure how the lack of lube will affect the release of the projectile. Perhaps I could test a few shiny, no lube cases aga...

Re: Neck Lube

Sent an email to Lee. They say no, there's no need for lube. I guess I'll run a few through when I get a chance and see what happens

Re: Neck Lube

Cheers for the quick reply RAMOS.
Nah, I don't WANT to use lube, just wondering if it was needed in the absence of carbon in a shiny clean case.
Might have a browse over Lee's website and see if that brings up anything specific

Neck Lube

I neck size with a Lee die so I understand I don't need lube for this. But after decapping and sizing, I intend running my cases through an ultrasonic cleaner. Since this removes carbon from inside the case neck, will I need to lube before seating bullets?

Re: Fox Shooting for Pelts with a .204 Ruger - Minimal Damag

I shot a fox with a 39gn Sierra BK and couldn't see an entry point. It didn't come out. Caused massive internal damage and he died instantly. Not sure how it would've gone with a side on shot - this one was looking straight at me. Bullet choice would surely play a part in pelt damage, but I'm guessi...

Re: Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

Photos? No worries. I'd just bought this Bravo ute and driven it back from Adelaide the previous day (I'm near Port Lincoln on 80 acres in the middle of cropping country). Was giving it some love with the armour-all when I spotted this red dog wandering across the neighbour's wheat crop. Ran inside,...

Re: Grooves in Brass

Thanks Rick.
I've since used a few more of those rounds and had no problems.
There's no wind outside and I have enough space to shoot at home (80 acres with broadacre cereal crops next door). Might put a few into paper this morning

Re: Sending a Savage 204 back Into Savage

Foxguy - I Had the same issue with my Ruger. Told Chasepaugh about this on a recent thread. I just took the stock off, shaved a little off the area it was touching. I scraped it with a pocket knife (synthetic) - sandpaper would be less brutal and I wouldn't take to a timber stock with a knife. Made ...

Re: CCI - 400 primers

I've just started out reloading. Tested CCI400 primers with Hornady 32 + 40 gn and Barnes VG 26 gn all with ADI BM2 powder (I think the Hodgdon equivalent is Benchmark, and IMR - IMR3031) from min to max recommended loads (from ADI website) and had no pressure signs on any loads. I'm shooting a Ruge...

Re: Grooves in Brass

Contacted Federal on Friday.
Got a quick reply asking me for a picture, but nothing since.
I would consider buying a swaging tool if I were going to buy any military brass, but doubt I will.

Anyone got any idea when the Lapua .204 brass is due to hit shops?

Re: Grooves in Brass

I'm not sure if a pocket swaging tool would help straighten that out. It looks like the pockets are slightly off center when a primer is seated. I'd contact Federal. Tom Primer pockets seem pretty concentric - compared them against other shells and there's no bigger variation. Inside pocket diamete...

Re: To 'float' or 'not to float' barrel

Hey chasespaugh I've got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye and had a few issues with consistancy until my father inlaw wisened me up. Found a point at the stock fore-end where the barrel was rubbing. Shimmed it next to the forward action screw and got better results straight away. After a few months it had crept ...

Grooves in Brass

Just picked up some factory Federal ammo and did a few spotlight runs recently. Didn't inspect any rounds before firing, just pushed them through by feel in the dark. Started de-capping them today and had the first decent inspection. I discovered that every one of them had an off-centre groove cut j...
