Re: Help with next loads please

I don't have a comparator? - is that the tool that measures to the ogive? :duh: But I imagine leaving the seating die in the one spot will give a consistent measure. Not perfect, but good enough for now I suppose. Hopefully I can get all the mistakes out of the way with this rifle, then do it right ...

Re: Help with next loads please

As I load a few different seating depths, I'm noticing that (with the seating die in the same place) some OALs are different. With a bit of fiddling I've managed to get a few different 5 load groups with OAL +/-0.001" But as I was doing this, I was wondering - It's probably more important to ke...

Re: CZ 527 varmint 204 ruger with many extras for sale

  I hate the US to Oz $ conversion re firearms, and import laws. Although the AU$ is buying more than US$1, this scope alone would cost me more than your asking price for the lot  I can't even buy a scope from the States without getting 100 of them and an import license. If this combo...

Re: Help with next loads please

Printed off a couple of dartboard targets recently and had a few games with my dad, brother and his 22lr. I did as good as the old man who was a pro roo shooter for years. There are certainly elements of my technique that need improving, but I'm confident that I'm reasonably consistent with the proc...

Re: Help- stuck cases

No experience with AR, but if they've been full lengthed, and you're using an already tried seating depth, then perhaps it's your case length.
If you haven't already, trim them back to spec (max 1.85" - try 1.845")

Re: Help with next loads please

Ah no worries. My scope's been doing that automatically for a bit. Had it zeroed for some factory rounds then when I started load testing they all shot high right.
Didn't get around to loading any more. Will have to look at that over next few days

Re: Help with next loads please

Not so good there. 1.49" av 4001fps SD 31 I did have troubles with the scales on the last case, and noticed that one other case (loaded) weighed a full grain heavier. The 3 that I know for sure were all good had a lower spread (3992,3992,4004), but still shot a 1.19" group. Reckon I'll try...

Re: Help with next loads please

Dan-- On your next range session adjust your scope 1" up & 1" right. Or somewhere else on the target so you don't shoot your main POA out of the target. And if you're already doing this just ignore this post!! Don't get your point here Glen. Not into unnecessarily adjusting my ...

Re: Help with next loads please

Cheers Glen Sounds like a good plan. There's every chance that the larger group is due to operator error. Chrono shows good consistency, just gotta make sure I'm doing my bit right. This is the 1st rifle I've owned. My technique would certainly be playing some part in (lack of) consistency. None of ...

Re: Red Fox called in.

Nice work mate. I often hear my dogs destroying another squeaky and wonder what a fox would think of it. I've seen a few about the place lately too. Might give that a try tomorrow. I'm on southern Eyre Peninsula SA. What about you? Looks like similar country, though most of southern Oz does this tim...

Re: Case trimmer

Lee - very cheap for hand held job. Then add a zip trim, or electric screwdriver, if you get sick of doing it by hand. Only problem is they don't make a length gauge for .204 They can make one for you if you send a sample case (already trimmed to your desired length) I bought one length gauge for .2...

Re: different pwder

Benchmark2(ADI) = Hodgdon Benchmark I'm an amateur shooter, never tried other powders either, but I've had a few 5 shot groups under .75moa (factory rifle) without messing with seating depth. Didn't standardize any cases either (trim, primer pocket/flash hole uniform) but have now - no tests yet. Do...

Re: Shot a pair this morning

The first fox I ever shot was a gut shot, at 10 yds  Found him 50 yds away, "sleeping" under a tree You're gunna get 'em sometimes. You could hit your paper target all day no worries, but in the heat of the hunt, everything changes Main thing is you finished it - and got some pics for...
