Monkey off my back? . . Time will tell
A young fox and I have been teaching each other a few lessons since before christmas. I've been seeing it from my kitchen window most mornings and evenings about 350-400yds away in the neighbour's paddock. And it's been watching me stalk it and get frustrated at not having a steady rest from which t...

Re: M77 Varmint vs Fox
Can't comment on the 32s, but I whacked a fox at just over 100 recently with a 39BK. Couldn't find any damage until I skinned him. Found a tiny entry point in neck/shoulder region, no exit, and very mushy internals. He stopped instantly, not even a flip. It is a great calibre, but as with any other,...

Re: Tell us about yourself...
G'day busa. I'm in South Australia. I've got one of those shooting sticks too. Shot federal factory ammo with 39gn BKs well. Been working on some reloads, but as it's my first, it's been a steep learning curve and still got a lot to learn. Keep us posted with your hunting stories, AND PHOTOS!! And l...

Re: Deburring Flashholes?
Got one of the CRT Flash Hole debur tools recently so now I can compare with the KM tool. Haven't used it yet, but I can tell from just looking at it that the KM will be put aside for some time. It's got a large diameter grip with cross hatching to make it very comfortable and easy to turn by hand. ...

Re: Bobcat vs 204
Well done mate. Just in case you haven't read this comment elsewhere on the forum, "WE LOVE PICTURES" And I especially love a dead cat. They, along with foxes, wreak havoc here on native bird, lizard and frog populations. Never shot one yet, but certainly looking forward to posting pics of...

Re: Problems with Lee Seater Die!
I had an issue with 26gn varmint grenades when they went up on an angle. As you said, the tip was catching, and the die actually deformed the tip. You'll need to sit the bullet as straight as possible (a little lean won't hurt) on the case mouth, then raise ram gently. I've read on another thread he...

Re: Red Fox called in.
The Black plug coming out of the inverter is essentially a 240V AC to 5V DC transformer, so what you're doing (if my memory isn't as fuzzy as it should be this time of year) is converting from DC (battery) to AC, then back to DC. You should be able to find some type of battery that will do the job d...

Re: Help with next loads please
Interesting reading on OCW Hedge. When I started load development I just picked a powder, then loaded from min to max (from manufacturers website) in .3gn increments. Then chose a tight group and worked around that in .1gn steps. The section on POI staying about the same for 3 consecutive charges ce...

Re: COAL questions......
Not sure a longer case would work - probably have issues with closing bolt if it's longer than trim spec.
Does this gauge require the bullet you intend loading, or is there a dummy projectile?
A dummy could have a longer base to stop it falling out

Seems to be making contact where the projectile is about 0.14" in diameter

Re: Help with next loads please
I remember reading this a little while back. You wouldn't know for sure if the Lee seater pushes on the ogive or not?? Suppose I could mark a projectile with ink and see where it rubs offHedge wrote:. . . I usually end up drilling the tip hole deeper and then polish the radius. .

I tried the toy on a young fox yesterday but it didn't even look up. It's not interested in the tin whistle either though. Probably too young - hasn't chased rabbits, only mice and frogs.

Re: COAL questions......
Jim, I've got a few Federal factory loads with 32Noslers and 39Sierras. The 32s are 2.26" and 39s 2.25" 2.26 is spec for this cartridge but most single shot loaders go a lot longer - from memory I reckon about 2.35"? due to the long throat. Have a look on the "favourite loads&quo...

Re: Help with next loads please
Hedge, I think that's what I'll do, but I was thinking of doing 7 rounds - shoot 5, 1 aside to measure later, and 1 I'll measure OAL to help with winding down the seating die for the next 5/7 rounds. If I reduce OAL on that by say 0.01", then that's gonna be the same reduction on the base to og...
