My "New" CZ Hornet

I was on the hunt for a .22 Magnum when I stumbled across this CZ Hornet. Since I've already written it up, and all the trials, tribulations and other stuff, here's the story. http://www.varminter.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14038 Yep, I'm lazy and I don't care to repeat myself  , but I've ...

Re: Looking for a good gunsmith in Alberta

The trigger on the Weatherby/Howa MOA is held in place by ONE Phillips head screw. You can probably handle that yourself, I managed to do it :D . Mine was on an older Howa, and I did have to make some alterations due to differences in how they were made, but the MOA is a recent rifle, and the Timney...

Re: Blue Dot powder

I haven't tried it in the .204, but I've used it in .223, for an experiment (and, as usual, Mr. Calhoon knew what he was talking about). It was "interesting" and shot quite well with 37s in my .223s. There's a fellow who goes by "seafire" over on www.24hourcampfire.com, who posts...

Re: IMR 8208 XBR - Anybody tried it yet?

According to my BR spy, a "wealthy" BR shooter went to Hodgdon and asked them to reproduce the old 8208 sold by Thunderbird Cartridge Company (I think it's takedown powder from some military stuff that wasn't to spec.) Hodgdon did so, as an exclusive for him only, but then decided to make ...

Howdy, TONK :D We've got a pretty friendly bunch here, helpful in most every way. If you need something, or wanna know something, just holler loud.

You wouldn't warm yourself at the campfire, would ya?  I answer as ratsmacker over there..........

Re: 40 gr. Key-holage

I've just returned from a frusterating day at the range that was cut short by a terrible key-hole problem. Today was my first day shooting my 40 gr. VMax bullets that I've loaded over BLC-2 powder. I'm shooting a Rem 700 with a 1-12" twist barrel. My first couple groups at 100 yards measured 3...

Re: J.Calhoon 20

The only "problem" with the Calhoon bullets is distribution and marketing. He doesn't sell to distributors, so they are sold "word of mouth" pretty much. You can't run down to the local shop and buy 100 to try out, so people are somewhat wary of them. Calhoon boxes his bullets in...

Re: i bought the red headed step child

"I like big bolts and I cannot lie" or something like that    I actually prefer the large bolt handles compared to the smaller ones. When you're P-Doggin', you do a lot of bolt lifting, and the bigger bolt handles give you more leverage (it SEEMS easier, if nothing else :D )...

Re: i think i know

If a 12FV weighs about 8 pounds, then so do I      I own a couple FVs and like them a lot, but they are a pound or two heavier, then you have to add scope weight, mounts, etc. It adds up, sorta like the weight around my middle. If you plan on using 32s (I use them) al...

Re: 40 gr. Key-holage

The problems with the 40 Hornady are pretty common, if you check WAAAAAAAAAAY back in this forum, you'll find a bunch of complaints with factory rifles and 40s. Most of us are not having any issues with the Sierra 39s, but apparently your rifle simply won't shoot anything much heavier than 35s. My S...

Re: The one that got away.

I think the Festiva (actually a Kia? it was Korean, in any event) came along in the late '80s, quite a bit after the Escort. Ford should have stuck with the German car, it was almost a Rabbit, but with better styling (IMO) and handling. Those Fiestas were a hoot to drive, you could really toss them ...
