I'm using the same load as Keith, in my Savage with a 26" barrel, it gets 3950fps or so, but it shoots well. It still kills PDs, even if it is slow  .

The Vanguard is basically a Howa 1500 with some cosmetic differences, like a fluted bolt and different bolt shroud. They are fine rifles, no matter where you buy them. I have a Howa .223 that will hang with most anything, including stuff a lot pricier than it is. Aside from a trigger that can be a h...

Mini-14s are reliable, very much so. They are pretty awful shooters, though. I've had four, the first one shot pretty good, to tell the truth. I sold it to buy something else(HK91). When I decided I wanted another, well, that one was better suited to a door prop or something, but it was reliable. I ...

With the speed a .22/250 generates, it should stabilize 55s and even 60s (depending on the barrel). Personally, I've had excellent results with the 50s and 55s, in my old .22/250s. I've loaded and shot some 40s, but with the poor BC, they aren't worth the trouble, most of the time. It's more efficie...

I'm not a Chuck Hawks fan, either. Most of what little I've read on his website seemed more "Guns and Ammo" than perhaps "Rifle" or Handloader", if you get my meaning. I haven't been back since then. I've only looked thru one Mueller, a lower powered model. It seemed okay to...

It could be anything from bedding to parallax in the scope (moving your eye from shot to shot could cause it). Frankly, for a light barrelled rifle, that's not bad at all, it looks worse than it is, because of the small little holes! Honestly, I think that's pretty darned good for a sporter, my CZ c...

It isn't about foot pounds, rattler, it's about bullet construction (or lack thereof, in .20 bullets). Penetration HAS been lacking in the early .204 bullets, and probably will continue to be lacking, lest the PD shooters complain about lack of performance on PDs and such. Anyway, a 40 pound coyote ...

"We must all hang together, or we shall surely hang separately". Ben Franklin was right, then, and right now, too.

There's a guy from Alberta over on Saubier.com who swears by the Berger 30s for coyotes. He's NOT using a .204, but a bigger case (can't remember which one :( must be CRS kicking in). He claims some kills at 400 yards, but his yards and MY yards might be different lengths  I think I'd give the ...

BD, you may have gotten off lucky, but, at least you got out of it, skin intact. You done good! I'm not scared of stuff I can see, but the stuff I can't see, makes me nervous :D That cat probably walked off cussing, missing supper probably POed him a good deal. Good thing they aren't too aggressive ...

Missouri is having a rash of cougar sightings, including one caught on a trail cam last weekend. It's got the fine folks on http://www.missouriwhitetails.com all knackered up, half are going to take a .44 magnum bowhunting, etc, and half are scared to go back in the woods, period. All manner of sill...

An AR can shoot with most boltguns, if they have the ammo they like, and a freefloated barrel (tubular handguard) up front. My buddy's Rock River Varminter will shoot 1/2" groups with AA2230-C and 52 Sierras, a load I came up with, for MY boltguns. I simply took my ammo and his rifle, and shot ...

The only thing MIGHT be the length of the action screws, one or the other is too long, or is it, too short? I can't remember which, but switching out will require different length screws, no big deal at all! There's no difference between actions on a VLP or FV (other than blue vs, SS).

The only blight on an FV is the stock, the same stock everyone fusses about as being flimsy and too rough from the mold. It's common for folks to fuss about it, but in general, it works. They usually shoot better after restocking, though :? as the stock can flex and hit the barrel when firing. I've ...

They are awfully popular in some circles, there are probably more .17 Mach IVs out there, than .17 Remingtons, it's a much smarter round, more efficient, and within a couple hundred FPS of the bigger case. We'll know soon enough, I suspect :D Even now, my warped little mind is trying to figure out h...
