Man I love those "TERRORIST" rifles!!!! RDD, Please, for future discussions, PLEASE use the correct terminology, HOMELAND DEFENSE RIFLE. All others take note, this is the term we will use from now to time eternal, HOMELAND DEFENSE RIFLE. Let the Brady Bunch argue AGAINST a HOMELAND DEFENS...

CZ rimfires are a lot different than CZ 527s, Glen, and the triggers are cranky at best, left factory. Luckily, a $15 Brooks trigger kit can fix that real easily. CZ DOES have a set triggered rimfire, the 453, but it's not cost effective to buy that one. Do the math. CZ 452= $339 +$15 trigger kit=$3...

2.293"OAL I hadn't paid much attention, I just loaded to magazine length in both rifles. I am decidedly un-scientific about it, though :D :D .

Pat Wray is no friend of ours, he's a member of that ASHA organization, the put-up "association" of outdoor writers gathered together by the Brady Bunch. There are plenty of threads on him alone, over on 24hourcampfire.com. I didn't read anything particularly good about him, or even modera...

CH, that's a function of case head thrust. Even if the .45/70 is running 30K, that's not too bad, but put that amount on a .473" case head and it might be too much for the receiver to handle. More, in a .378" case head, is okay, but do that in a magnum case head size, and again, it might b...

Reloading is great fun and relaxation, and I highly recommend it for those reasons, but a lot will depend on how much shooting you plan to do with it. It might be wiser to hold off on a bulk ammo buy just yet, and see which ammo your rifle likes. Most all CZs seem to like the 32 grain loads pretty w...

skipper, the pantywaists that want gun control are already afraid of us, we won't lay down for them to do their thing, TO US. I'm at the point where I just don't care what they think any more, why should I give them the same courtesy they fail to afford me?

"unforgiving and quick to attack without mercy." Hmmm....... Considering the source, msnbc, I consider that a good thing. I don't want them to think we'll just roll over for them, and beg for more of their bovine effluence. I'm just flat out tired of the fecundity of their arguments, and I...

Stock shape will also play a part in whether or not you can see hits from the heavier bullets, more drop at the comb will make it less likely to see your hits. I don't think the extra 1.1 pounds of the Varminter will make it untenable for carrying around, it still weighs less than my Model 70 in .27...

They used to make (just disco-ed it) a 37 grain .17 bullet, requiring a 1-6" twist barrel    I'm thinking a 70 grain .20 would be in the same neighborhood, probably on the same block! I don't see how that length bullet would be terribly useful, that's almost too much for .224&quo...

I think you'll be fine with a CZ in the American version. I've used mine PDogging, (limited amount) and I could see the hits pretty well. This was with the 32s, but the 39s aren't much different. I have a Weaver KT-15 on the rifle, so I was pushing my luck a little, but I think you'll be fine with a...

Savages smooth up nicely with use, say, about 500 rounds in a PD patch  The big bolt knob is a definite help here, though, more leverage is a GOOD thing.

For your circumstances, Rick (LowPro), I'd say get the CZ Varmint, like the other Glen (One En) suggested. They aren't terribly pricey, set triggers are superb, and the rifle's not too heavy, either, only about 1 pound heavier than the sporter. I have a sporter, and another buddy has the Varmint, an...

Ryan, a friend of mine has a couple of those Simmons, and he's very happy with them. They've been on some .25/06s for years, and shot very hard, never had any trouble with them, either. They are a lot better than the price would seem to allow.
