Latest Powerball winner lives on the Rosebud

I found this pretty interesting, the kid mentioned lives outside Mission, where a lot of PDoggers go to shoot prairie dogs. Some of us may have met this kid at one time or another, who knows? Anyway, I hope he gets some good financial advice and doesn't drink up the winnings, or spend it unwis...

Re: Primers listed in flyers

I stop by Graf's when heading up to my father's place for deer season (he lives in Northcentral Missouri). Last fall I picked up a jug of Benchmark "just in case" and it seems like I did the right thing. 8) I'd been buying a thousand primers when I found 'em, here and there. so I haven't b...

Rumor has it that Lester Bruno has plenty of Varget

My spy at the Super Shoot last week said that Lester Bruno had plenty of "very fresh" (recently bottled) Varget powder at his booth, and took home quite a bit of it. He had a lot of most other Hodgdon powders as well, excepting H4198. You'll have to pay hazmat and shipping, but if you need...

Re: Tikka T3 Varmint Range report

That's good shooting, scott_r, no flies on your rifle or loads, for sure.

How do you like the Vortex? I keep hearing great things about them, and the ones I've peeked thru seemed very good.

Re: .223 vs. 22-250

I've owned several Savage rifles in both chamberings. In those particular cases, with those particular rifles, the .22/250s seemed to shoot better, but it's impossible to say that the either chambering is any better, as the next two rifles might show the opposite traits. ;) FWIW, I've had less troub...

Re: Stiller actions

I sincerely doubt anyone will chime in with any criticisms of the Stiller action. They are what any action should aspire to be. IIRC, they are a copy of the Remington action, only squared up the way a smith cleans up a Remington, which isn't bad at all. The folks I know who have Stillers are very ha...

Re: Bino Rant

Some years ago, when a chain sports store went out of business here, I bought a pair of B&L Legacy 10x50s. Got a heckuva price on them, and they've held up extremely well. I THINK Bushnell is still selling them, under the Legacy line, but I'm not sure about that. They are pretty heavy and bulky,...

Re: XR-100

You might want to take a peek at the 2009 models, they have changed the barrel nut on the "nicer" models, and changed the bolt release/sear location to the front of the trigger guard, it helps the appearance quite a bit.

Re: Howa 1500 Loads

Berger makes a 55 grain .20 bullet, it's best suited for the bigger cases like the .20PPC and .20 BR, though, IMHO. It will NOT stabilize in factory 1-12" barrels, it requires something like a 1-8" twist, according to a Berger employee who posts on www.saubier.com.

Re: case scratching

I'd check around the feed ramp to see if there are any burrs sticking up, that might scratch the case. I once had a Winchester Heavy Varmint in .22/250 that scratched the cases badly enough I worried a little about it. I got to looking closely, and found a little burr sticking up at the right side l...

Re: New Ruger Hawkeye Predator.

It should handle everything up to 75 grains "okay", maybe it'll shoot 75s and maybe it won't ;) Some rifles will handle, for example, a Hornady 75 Match HP, and not the 75 A-Max, or maybe neither one, it's hard to say. It should handle Winchester's 64 grain bullet just fine, it's relativel...

Don't be shy about trying one of the 4895s or Varget, also. One of them might be what the rifle wants.

Re: 204 gun powder??

I don't know anyone who's tried Lil Gun yet. I've read some Blue Dot users have tried that powder, I have tried it in .223 with adequate results, but not the .204. To be honest, I'm not sure it's a safe alternative. I know of a guy in Indiana who blew up a Contender .17 Remington using the Blue Dot ...

Re: Tikka T3 .204 Ruger

Last year's NRA Show and Convention was held nearby, and I visited with the Beretta/Sako crowd for awhile, mentioning the limited numbers of .204s they were making/selling here. The reps didn't seem the slightest bit interested in making larger numbers of .204s for sale in the US, in fact, I didn't ...
