Re: How about a handgun that shoots prairie dogs at 1/4 mile?

My buddy had a Striker in .22/250, it was a shooting machine. .2" at 100 yards with 37.0 Varget/50 VMax. Chrono-ing gave it a velocity of around 3450, a bit more than a .223 rifle, in the ballpark, anyway. Nice, nice "handguns", and smartly set up, too. The leftbolt/rightport makes se...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

I read " Rogue River Feud" by Zane Grey many years ago, I feel like I almost know the place, emphasis on "almost" ;) . He painted a very pretty picture of it, anyway. Always wanted to see it, after reading the book. Ken Burns, who does all of the GOOD PBS specials on TV, has a ne...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

They filmed the movie "Shane" in what appears to be Antelope Flats, of the Grand Teton National Park, before the park was expanded. If my pictures don't show them well enough, rent the movie and turn off the sound  I did so last night   , and looked it over real ...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

I think Yellowstone closes to personal vehicles after Labor Day, since it snows a LOT there and all the mountain passes are closed. That would be a fine time for Jackson Hole, since it's a ski resort, though  .

Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

I just got back from my first Yellowstone/Grand Tetons trip. My dear old mother had some frequent flier miles to burn up, and wanted to take me someplace. Jackson Hole seemed like a good choice  We spent a week in Jackson Hole, and the local area, mostly the Grand Teton National Park. Went ...

Re: Chicken Thief?

Coons especially love chicken. Dad had a lot of problems with them getting into his hen house, he had to wrap the corners with tin sheeting (to make it too slick for them to climb into the henhouse.) Also, mink and practically every other kind of varmint like chickens, too, though they are usually t...

European American Arms took over importation from Remington this year. Before Chas. Daly had them, they were imported by Interarms.

The simpler solution would be to just cap the cat........................ :eew:

but that might mean sleeping outside with the dog.

Re: Checklist for prairie dog shoot

Don't forget any prescriptions you might need, it's a LONGGGGGG ways to the nearest drugstore. Tweezers are handy for those little cactus spines that sometimes find their way into your person, too.

Re: 32 grain noslers with RL15 and federal 205m primers help

http://www.rugerhunting.com/204_data_alliant.php It seems awfully slow with light bullets, but that's not the concern, as you stated. I haven't used Re-15, though many of my friends love the stuff with heavy bullets in .223s. All you can do is try it, you should be able to find something to go bang,...

Re: Group size question==need advoce

We'll need to know a lot more details before we can even start to guess what, if anything, ails your rifle. What bullets were you shooting, and also, the loading details (primer, case, powder, etc.) What kind of rest are you shooting from? How many rounds have you shot thru the rifle? A lot of .204s...

Re: Western Nebraska & Colorado PD count

My father had a first cousin who lived in Limon for many years, he ranched a lot of ground there. We visited his place way back in 1968, I was nine years old, so the details are a bit fuzzy as to location, but I seem to recall his ranch house was located in the split from I-70 to the road to Colorad...

Re: Nebraska Prairie Dog Trip

Great pics and story, Melvin, as usual. You guys had too much fun. Nothing like "too much fun" for a good time! I'm jealous enough for the whole forum............ I'm gonna have to settle for a sightseeing trip this year. Mom has some frequent flier miles to burn up, so I'm headed to...

Re: Latest Powerball winner lives on the Rosebud

I hadn't seen any pics of the winner until last night, on the TV news, and yes, he IS white, which is pretty surprising, obviously, most folks on an Indian Reservation are Indians, in this case, Brule Sioux. There is a fair amount of deeded ground on the Rosebud, presumably, he's from one of those f...

Re: Latest Powerball winner lives on the Rosebud

You wanna bet they'll all be driving shiny new pickups in a month or so? :D I like my current truck a lot, so I'd just pay mine off, but a broke kid is bound to buy himself a shiny new truck pretty quick. Can't blame him much, either. It's a rough life up there on the Rosebud, for most of them. On t...
