Re: 270 WSM

I completely concur with acloco on this. To prove it, I own two .270 Winchesters, and am more than satisfied for my hunting needs with them. Both shoot very well with the same load, so it's not complicated to load for them (that's probably dumb luck, but I'll take it). There is something to the long...

Re: High Country 204

When I got back from the Teton trip in late June, I printed up some pictures of the snow-capped peaks and tacked them up at work, so I could look at them during the miserable, humid heat of the day (no A/C in the shop :eew: ) and think about how nice and cool it was out in Wyoming. It doesn't help M...

Recall on .17 HMR Remington 597 rifles

Rem. .17 HMR Rifle recall Saw this posted somewhere else; If you have a semi-automatic firearm chambered for 17 HMR ammunition, immediately discontinue use of Remington 17 HMR ammunition. If you have any Remington 17 HMR ammunition that you wish to return to Remington contact the Remington Consumer ...

Re: Something Special.

I wouldn't have recommended a Dakota rifle before this week, because of the guy who owned the company, but I noticed today that Remington has just bought Dakota Arms. I don't know what your budget will tolerate, but if you want a really high-end rifle, they sure make some pretty ones. Them, or the C...

Re: Hornady 32 gr VMAx funky tips

I've bought boxed Sierra Blitzkings (not seconds) that were crooked, or not inserted fully. It happens, and slips by the inspectors at times, too. Stuff happens. Hornady usually has an operator on the machine, but I've seen (on a plant tour) the V-Max machine run all by it's lonesome, with no one ar...

Re: Aftermarket Savage Actions

I'll second the nomination for Jim. A+ guy with plenty of stuff in stock at most times. If you've ever ordered a custom tube from a reputable barrel maker you know how long the wait can be. Its nice when you decide to buy a new tube and Jim can send it right out. Not only did he send mine "rig...

Re: Just wondering!!

If I had to guess :chin: , it would be $$$$$, which is what business is all about :D . A true 1-12" DOES work with 40 Hornadys, as guys here attest to all the time, but the problem is that most factory barrel-making stuff hasn't got the tolerances to give a true 1-12", it gets worn and &qu...

Anyone looking for a Sako 85 SS in .204??

I went to Whittaker's today, with a couple of buddies, and while loafing along the many aisles at the place, found a couple of Sako 85s, SS, fluted barrels, laminated stocks and set triggers (just like Rick in Oregon's  ). One was a .223, the other was a .204, neither are common to run across,...

Re: Look what followed me home!

Nice looking pistol. If it shoots anything like the Delta Elite I had, it will love AA#7 powder with the heavier bullets (170s-200s). HS-7 will work well, also. It's a fine cartridge, almost a .41 Magnum, but easier to carry around. Sierra's 135s shoot pretty well, too, and might even make a rat wis...

Re: Stevie Wonder, commenting on the death of Michael Jackson

When asked by the Jackson family for some help with retiring the $400million debt that had accumulated before MJ died, Stevie Wonder said "I don't see that happening..."

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

It would seem that the SSS rules might apply, if the critter didn't have a collar, anyway. If it had a collar, a trip to the nearest highway might be appropriate  Roadkills happen, after all.................... Not that I, myself, would ever advocate a good, commonsense approach to wolf depred...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

According to my friend who lives out there, there are already six packs of wolves in the Teton Park as well, though no one wants to admit it, especially the Fish and Wildlife folks. It was incredibly stupid to bring those Canadian wolves into Yellowstone, Idaho, Montana, etc. they are a different su...

Re: Off Topic, no killin' or shootin' involved

Watch out for the buffler if you're going on a bike, there isn't much give in a bison  They seem habituated to motorcycles pretty well, though, it looked to me. I'd hate to be a bicyclist (and there are plenty in there) during the fall rut, if a bull bison was out of sorts. If you can, make...

Re: AR project

Mike, I'd guess ;) that Shilen doesn't want to undercut it's wholesale customers, and that's the reason for the price differences. Midway buys a LOT of barrels, while you and I, the retail customers, do not buy as many. In an effort NOT to irritate the big buyer(s) they have a different price struct...
