if you had a short barrel in .204 18" long. what powder would you chose to use to get the fps up and why?
so far i have come up with : vit n130, h 4198, re-10x..

22" bbl length is the optimal length for a .204. Although I myself would love a shorter bbl. But through all the research I have done and the manufacturers I have spoken with, anything less than a 22" bbl will not allow for a complete propellant burn due to the velocity the projectile is ...

i tested a load of h335 26.2grs with a sbk 39gr in my .204 ruger the barrel is 18" long the chrono reading is ,3270fps

i use a arbor press and wilson seating die, i need a better chamfer,and would also like a tool to check concentricity..

have been out this morning with the chrono, it was a waste of time, the weather is mist and fog , i could not get a reading, so will now have to wait til i have time and try again....

well a friend has lent me a chono, so tomorrow i will test my 18" barrel on my .204 using re-10x i have a few loads made up and will chrono up max load and then put on this forum..

trent i know you only doing it to help us reloaders, if i get chance i will run it through a chrono, the only thing being, my barrel is only 18", although that might be interesting some to see how much fps i have losted.. i have now also brought re-10x so will be looking to work some loads up i...

thanks for reply my dealer only got those two in id have to order that one special which would take a while so ive gone with re-10x the h4198 is not temp sensitive either, is very rear here that we get that bad a temp shift plus most of my shooting in this cal takes plaace at night with a lamp so co...

yes h4198 i already made some loads then sold the powder the loads where only 20grs with 39sbk no pressure signs
so i take it would recommend re10x instead

trent i see you have h335 at 28.3, with 39grs sbk, this must be a very hot load, i got pressure signs at 26.5 and then pushed it up little by little and finally to 27.5, it blew a hole striaght through the primer, which was a rem 7,1/2

i have a18" barrel on my howa .204 i am wanting to know which powder i would be better with.
re10x or h 4198 on the burn chart the h4198 is faster, but on loading data the re10x shows more fps.
