Re: what I did today.

Yes, very nice. I've done some work with American walnut and it's much darker than that. That's why I thought it might be curly maple. Maple is great for a guitar, but it expands too much for a gun. Nice, very impressive.

I use it. It works pretty good. It does save a little time.

Re: Results of our Elk hunt!

That's a great testament for Barnes. Congrats! I'm gonna load my 300WSM with some TSX for a caribou hunt were planning.

Re: Long range prairie dogs with the 204

Hotshot-Thanks for the story! I haven't had anyone yet that's shot my gun, that hasn't said they have to get one. The first sales pitch is the lack of recoil. Accuracy is a close second.

Re: Leupold VX-III

My only complaint with Leupold is they exaggerate the magnification a bit. Take any Leupold with 14x and compare it with any other company's 14x, and there is quite a difference. Heck, I have a cheap Bushnell on my muzzleloader that's a 12x and the image is bigger than the Lupey. That's my ONLY comp...

Re: Scope of choice

I voted Leupold, but I own Sightrons, Muellers (not Mullers), and Bushnells also. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. As long as you use them in that capacity, most any scope is useful.

Re: Can Elk Swim?

We've seen a whitetail 5 miles offshore in Lake Huron. I hope she wasn't swimming all the way from Canada, but it sure looked that way!

$1200 seems high too. I paid a little over $900. Mine is the last year before they went to the new trigger though.

Re: Muzzle Brake for 7mm WSM

janneuf- I agree with Rick. For a hunting rifle forget it. Here in Michigan alot of hunting is done from elevated blinds, and believe, my 30-06 with a muzzlebrake will deafen you for the rest of the day, and most of the following day. I won't hunt with it if I'm sitting in a blind. The concussion is...

Re: Long range prairie dogs with the 204

We would use those little flags that the phone and power company use to mark undergound lines. (My buddy works for Miss Dig). We'd walk out with a rangefinder and place them every 100 yards or so. Give a bit for the dogs to settle, and start the carnage.

Re: VSSF II Update

Sure did, took it home and cleaned as if I had been shooting it. Have put almost 200 rounds through it and still the same crap. Am hoping I will get an answer this week as to what they are going to do. Bummer. Another issue I had with mine, was a bone-head move on my part. When mounting the scope b...
