May I add -- some time ago somebody, who is temporarily in a position of importance said, "that's why they cling to their guns and religion"

Re: Addicted
There is a difference between compulsion (irresistable urge  ) and addiction (dependence). In addition to the very fine Cooper.204 Ruger there are many other rifles that some of us are compelled to have- this is why I have a big gun safe and a secured safe room full of rifles and shooting gear....

Re: Shipping guns
I have shipped many rifles and one handgun for rebarrel jobs. I do the following: If possible only ship the barrelled action, if you have to ship everything take the action out of the stock. Wrap the entire barrelled action in plastic shrink type wrap, remove the bolt (bolt guns - absolutely no doub...

Re: Longest 204 chuck kill?
As long as we may include rounds other than the .204 R. Many years ago I shot one at 780 yds with a 6.5-06 shooting the 140 gr Sierra GK with a full charge of surplus H4831 ( I used to buy this in bulk dispensed in 2 1/2 gal gas cans), GI 06 match brass, and the Rem 9 1/2 primer. I located the both ...

Re: suppressor increase velocity ?
Have looked into suppressors but have been put off by the $250-$300 ? ATF fee, paper work, & wait. I might wind up with 28-30 inch barreled varmint rifle. After a good varmint shoot I often hear the comment about how loud my rifle(s) were from nearby farmers (ranchers?) and they are not talking ...

Re: powder funnel & shell holder for 204
I reamed out then slicked up the opening (400 grit sandpaper wrapped around a 16D sinker nail) of one of my green plastic RCBS funnels I used for my .17 Rem to just fit over the mouth of the .20. At least H4895, IMR 8208 and all ball powders easily flow through the opening. If I tried R10X it probab...

Re: Temp sensitivity in powder?
Varget like fire wood! Try IMR 4064. Or in the old days I used surplus Hodgdon 4831 periodically acquired in 2 1/2 gal. steel gas cans - cheap to shoot but difficult to measure. For my small rifles I first used H4895, then Varget, and now IMR 8208 XBR. I will probably stay with Varget with the .308 ...

Re: case necks
The big consideration is how well are the bullets uniformly and securely held in the case like round to round. Another consideration is bullet run out or missaligned bullets. In a .300 Win mag sizing the entire neck would be done. In a .30-06 using 110 grain bullets maybe 1/2? Sizing the entire neck...

Re: Ladder testing / load developement
AccurateShooter.com6mmBR has an article about ladder testing. My experience has been to use what other shooters use that works well. I make small adjustments from there. I use a chronograph and try for small groups and consistent velocities. Where I shoot there is commonly head winds @ 11 and 1 o'cl...

Eezox sounds better than BoeShield and I can get a 4oz can for about $13.00 inc shipping from the Warren outfit in Ohio where I bought my ghost ring sights from. I like the part about salt spray.

Re: neck turning
I think neck turning in most cases is a waste of time with good standard factory brass fired in a well made standard chamber. If your rifle is chambered to use brass with reduced neck dimensions for picky (how well can you hold?) or precision bench rest shooting you have no choice. I turn necks when...

Re: savage barrel
In the Sept. 2011 issue of Rifle magazine there is a piece about barrel break in and on page 38 there is a part about a comparison between a Cooper and Savage barrel. Photos showed the Savage barrel having "full of perpedicular cuts and gouges (tool marks)" yet that Savage barrel produced ...

Re: My awesome new stock blew apart my groups...
Possibly your receiver is bent or bowed down at each end (stressed) by excessive 65 inch pound tension by both fore and aft screws. Machine threads on 1/4 inch screws can exert major forces on parts. Try backing off the rear screw. If that does not work try shimming up the receiver just behind the r...

Re: Barrel Length
Nothing like good research This sort of confirms my thinking on barrel length for the .204R. Of interest is the amount of muzzle blast with the 14 inch barrel - I would not guess it would be that bad with the small powder charges used by the .204R. Also of interest are higher velocities with the 23 ...

Re: Firing pin
An excessively large hole in the bolt face could be the problem (as mentioned before). Try removing the bolt from the rifle then allow the firing pin to fall or uncock the firing pin. This can be done by twisting the bolt sleeve. To recock the firing pin draw the firing pin back by pulling the cocki...
