CO license requirements

Does anyone know, with certainty, the license requirements for a nonresident to shoot prairie dogs in CO on private land? I've read that a small game license is required and I've also read that you can get around it by acting as an agent for the land owner (read: have permission to shoot there). I'l...

Re: What would you get?

While I agree to some extent about your comments. I'm not sure what the difference would be between counting a few click or hoping that the particular hash mark(which your still guessing at) is going to be more accurate. Speed is the difference for me. It's much faster to hold off for wind than to ...

Re: What would you get?

Thanks for the info. Now why would you suggested holding off for wind instead of dialing it in? I won't speak for Rick, but in my experience the wind changes so frequently that it's not practical to dial in adjustments. I also think you start running into problems dialing two different turrets. Doi...

I assume you're limiting the selection to sporter rifles? If not, that opens a whole new can of worms.

Re: How Many Rifles???

I expanded the stable this year, so the lineup will include a .22 rifle and pistol, a pair of .204s and a pair of 6BRs. The .204s will likely see the most duty, but I'll switch to the 6BRs if the wind gets brisk and the shots stretch out. One BR has a 1:14 twist for the lighter bullets while the oth...

Re: WTB Cooper 204 Ruger Model 21

For a Jackson with the extras, that's not really a bad price. Call a dealer and see what they go for new. I found a brand new one from an authorized dealer for less than $1,700 after 30 seconds of Google time. To me, the marginal price difference makes the GB rifle (with two stock dings) poorly pri...

I don't think the GB rifle is going away any time soon. It's priced a tad bit, eh, optimistically.

I have both and agree with Jim White's post. You really can't go wrong either way.

You have a point there, Ramos! Cooper should just open up the options so we can all get exactly what we want.

You've almost got it, Ramos. I sure wish Cooper would put the port on the left side and leave the bolt alone.

Re: 2012 Prairie dog adventures

Rick: Thanks for the tip. I usually try to get permission to shoot directly from land owners, but it's good to know that guides are available if I have to fall back on something. I have a couple new shooting sticks that need to be properly broken in this year. :D

Re: 2012 Prairie dog adventures

Thanks for the tip, TD. We went near Winner, SD a couple years ago and used a "guide" on reservation land. Plenty of dogs, but they were very highly educated and our "guide" was less than impressive. Do you hit reservation land or private ground up there?
