Re: Factory .204 offerings

You might check with Cooper to see if they'll make you a .204 Model 21 with a faster twist barrel, or maybe just asking will put some heat on them to offer it; am not sure who makes their barrels now. Cooper will build a rifle with a custom twist and barrel, if you would like. However, it's a prett...

Re: Forum rat rodeo

I haven't lost anything in Kalifornia and feel no urge to spend my money there, either. We need to organize a caravan traveling across the country toward Oregon. I would prefer to fly out there, but lugging all of the gear makes that nearly impossible. I guess I just need to meet up with the caravan...

Re: Forum rat rodeo

Rick: I'd be willing to make the trek out to Skippy's territory. That sounds like a great deal of fun to me, and knowing you, it would certainly be a memorable event done up right.

Did you use an outfitter, or is this the cost of ammo? I don't have any intention of using an outfitter and paying $150/gun/day unless that's something the group really wants to do.

Re: Forum rat rodeo

In my opinion, the best time of year for a shoot is when the pups are out and the weather is pleasant. Depending on the area, that seems to be late May or early June. As RIO mentioned in another thread, I think sage rats would be a lot of fun to shoot. My only reservation there is the distance most ...

Forum rat rodeo

I had mentioned something about a forum prairie dog shoot in another thread and it seemed to get a bit of traction, so I thought I'd start a new thread to gauge people's interest. This is nothing formal yet, but is instead the place for people to bounce around ideas and speak up if they're intereste...

Re: I was bored!

WY-NE: Funny you should mention that. I had a particularly frustrating day at the office yesterday and spent much of the afternoon wishing that I was out in the prairie dog fields again. I'm glad to see that you got out and gave a few flying lessons with me in mind.

Re: CO prairie dog trip

Depending on how many people were on hand, the shooting would almost certainly have to be broken up into small groups. I think the logistics could be worked out, though.

Re: CO prairie dog trip

Mike i like you're thinking it would be a grand time it would great to put a face to names. I agree with you, Clint. I also think that it would be a great learning experience for people. I'm sure that we all have developed unique ways of spending time in prairie dog towns and I could pick up a lot ...

Re: CO prairie dog trip

That's a nice setup to have in elk camp. I've only hunted elk once, but that experience was enough to teach me that a heated tent is very nice to have (I didn't have one.). Live and learn.

Re: CO prairie dog trip

I agree that a rat rodeo would be a lot of fun, if the details could all be sorted out.

Do you run a fire or stove in that teepee?

Re: CO prairie dog trip

There's a lot to be said for a teepee tent, Tim. I recently ordered one for elk hunts in the Rockies. It will beat the pants off of a conventional tent for room to move around and the wood stove will make me a lot happier at night. :)

Re: CO prairie dog trip

Ray: I know what you mean about groups splitting up for various reasons. I enjoy getting out there so much that I'd almost consider doing it alone if I had to. Perhaps one day we should organize a .204 Rat Rodeo for forum members to meet up and have some fun.
