WTS: 223 Rem Barrel SOLD

Barrel was purchased from Northland Shooter Supply about a year ago. It's 26" small shank for the Savage action, McGowan, heavy varmint weight match (approx .800 at the muzzle), stainless with the 1 in 8 twist and the Wylde chamber. Round count of 345. Only reason it's being sold is the action ...

Re: Stock Options

Not to steal this thread, but I figured my question would be better fit here than starting a whole new thread. First of all, I'm fairly new to the .204 world. I just picked up a savage model 12 FCV and truly do love the gun but prefer the feel/look of the tactical stocks. Going off what was offered...

Re: Rust?

Remington's dull finish is not a durable "parkerizing". The steel is sand blasted and blued, hence the poor corrosion resistance. My 870 shotgun I carried in my unmarked police car was the biggest PIA for rust while stored in the trunk. My "M4gery" had no such issues.

Good work. Looks like the five shot groups will measure under an inch. What velocity are you getting?

I've had pretty good groups with the Remingtons but always seem to do better with the BR4s.

Re: Chrony Ballistics Software

I don't know about their software but, if it's anything like their chronographs, it will probably go belly up in a year. I bought a Beta Chrony last year and it's already "gone south" with velocity fluctuations in the order of 215 fps from one shot to the next yet the loads are shooting ac...

Re: Rests for working up loads

I found that shooting from a front benchrest and rear rabbit ear bag that I get more consistant recoil (I shoot free recoil with light calibers) if I wax the forearm and rear butt stock. Another solution is the Sinclair teflon tape but I have yet to try that. I wax my stocks using car wax.

Re: Problem with reloads

So far, I get a little indication of copper in my factory Savage barrel but it's no where near as bad as my Savage 7mm Magnum..............now, there's a real "copper mine" if I ever saw one. It looks like Savage rifled it with a chain saw.

I have H332, will try it too. It always shoots well in my 223 and 223AI.

Re: CCI 450 Mag Primers

Getting any benchrest primers here in central Georgia is a PIA, hence my thoughts on using the 450's. It irks me to have to pay haz mat AND shipping for primers/powder and I can only afford to buy small amounts at a time.

Re: Midway USA DogTown 34 Grain Bullets

Tom, that sounds good for your first attempt on the new barrel. I haven't shot IMR 4895 with 32's or 34's, so can't help there. I have shot it some with 40 v-maxes. It gave reasonably good accuracy, right at .5-.6 moa with 27.4g producing a velocity averaging at 3,800 fps in a Savage 1x12, 22"...

Re: 34gr Dogtown and RL-10X

Retested the 24.5 grain load using identical data to the original and accuracy was poor, any where from 1.182" to the smallest being .717" SD/ES was all over the place. The only thing different this time was the use of once fired brass that was first full length sized due to a few cases be...

Re: Problem with reloads

I just started load for the 204 about 10 days ago and have been using the 39gr SBKs with no accuracy problems at all so maybe newer lots have had the problems fixed.

CCI 450 Mag Primers

Anyone using these in 204 loads? The Br-4s have gotten way too espensive for my limited budget so I was looking to switch my loading to the 450 mags or Rem 7 1/2s. It's a pity, pretty much every one of my accurate loads have been with the Br-4s.
