Lucky unlucky day

Was out at the range today shooting mostly rimfire. Then I switched over to some 223 shooting with the Tikka. I started with 40gr VMax with 27.5gr of 2230c. Then I tried some 40gr Vmax's with 28gr of 748. The first shot went fine, then the second shot-and an instant stinging in my right cheek. I kne...

Re: New rifle

I am somewhat of a beginner myself to reloading. I get very flustered with those dang flyers too and I gets tons of em, so my heart goes out to you. An article I read (from one of the shooting mags which I cannot remember) suggested that it is generally a problem between the gun and the seat of the ...

Re: Nikon hath sinned against me

Jim- You are correct. I have sold other scopes because they did not perform as well as I had hoped they would. Not that they were "bad scopes". Heck, the Nikon we keep harping about isn't bad, it just doesn't provide the dollar value I expected from a company built around its lens quality....

Re: CZ 452 17 HMR

What about just putting some lead down the tube then cleaning it? Seems to me the heat and pressure of shooting it might blast that crap right out the end of the barrel and/or burn it up. After that it might clean up quite easily. Then again, I could be wrong. My 452 17hmr wouldn't group very well u...

Re: Temp sensitivity in powder?

FredCDobbs- Was you just joshing or was you serious? Furthermore I'm not quite sure what OP means. If you were serious I don't remember ever learning that particular netiquette, where do a person go to learn that sort o stuff to that level of interpretation? I figured that feller was just making a h...

Re: Still my all around favorite scope

Wrangler John- probably right. Live and learn. Glad I bought CZ and Tikka...worth every nickel. Lee makes the cheapest reloading equipment and I shoot sub moa groups with it. That logic just doesn't apply to scopes. Sometimes cheaper pays off sometimes it doesn't. In the end it's even Steven for me :)

Saur Rifles?

Got to looking at Saur rifles. They are certainly gorgeous. Any owners and/or shooters here? I was thinking of saving up for a 243- if anything at least to look at.

Tikka 595

Just figured out how to post pics and I only have a few. Here is one of my bug hole groups at 100yds from my Tikka Master Continental in 223. It doesn't always perform this well. This is a 5 shot group. I was weaned on 5 shot groups, don't understand why people even bother with 3 shot groups, they d...

Re: Favorite Loads

My favorite load to date with a CZ 527 Varmint is Winchester or Hordandy brass neck sized only using Lee equipment, #71/2 primers, 29.0gr of Reloader 15 powder, Sierra 39gr Blitzkings seated to 2.305" COAL. Top pic is 200yds with the best group being 0.44". The bottom pic is 100yd groups, ...

Re: Your thoughts on AO for a .17 HMR

Rick, I completely agree with you and think we are seeing eye to eye. Never did confuse focus with parallax. I do see now how parallax adjustment is important in the varmint and target arenas and see my misunderstanding for long distance shooting. The scope manufacturers aren't always clear in the m...

Re: Your thoughts on AO for a .17 HMR

I have done a bit more research and have found out that even though there is less parallax at further distances group sizes can become much bigger with non parallax adjusted scopes due to the distances shot. A 50 yd shot not adjusted for parallax may only be an inch off target due to distance from t...

Re: Your thoughts on AO for a .17 HMR

Here is a quote as to what the term parallax means as found in Wikipedia-Parallax is an apparent displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight, and is measured by the angle or semi-angle of inclination between those two lines. The term is ...

Re: Your thoughts on AO for a .17 HMR

Shrutester- I don't know if any of the other fellers mentioned it as I didn't completely read all of their replies. You stated you wanted an AO scope for the longer shots. AO is in fact for the closer shots-for parallax adjustment. At least that is my understanding. That is why most cf rifles for bi...

Re: Best Ammo Prices?

In the short and long run, reloading is still cheaper, though admittedly not as convenient. I use all Lee equipment and have very few complaints. To get started you may need to put in a few hundred dollars, but you can spend that much easily on loaded ammo in one trip to the range. My CZ shoots cons...
