Re: Best Factory Ammo for Savage Model 12 VLP? Foxing.

My Savage 12FV (1:12, 26 inch) shoots the Hornady 40gr at least as well as the 32g, but both are very good (less than 1 MOA). Haven't shot factory ammo in a couple of years, but went through several hundred rounds before I started rolling my own. Now I shoot 40gr Vmax almost exclusively.

Re: bedding a savage / suggestions please

I have bedded them both ways - If you add a pillar in the rear, you will have to notch out the rear 1/3 to 1/2 of the pillar in order to clear the bolt release assembly in front of the trigger. Then relieve and bed up to the front edge of your pillar. It does help because of the close proximity of t...

Re: 39 grain blitzking and BLC-2 powder

I get very nice groups using 29.5 grains of BL-C(2) behind the 39 gr Blitz King bullets. Typically I use CCI BR-4 or CCI 450 primers. I would start at 28 grains and work up, considering 30 grains the max.

Re: BLC-2 .....

I get great accuracy from BL-C(2), and so far I haven't found one that seems better - I can match the accuracy with others but not the velocity. 29.5 grains behind a 40 gr V-Max bullet yields consistent groups between .5 and .75 MOA in my Savage. You're right about the temperature sensitivity though...

Re: primers?

Yes, provided you worked up the load with that particular primer. What can be dangerous is to just substitute a different primer in a maximum (or close to maximum) load that you've already tested though. If I want to change a primer on an existing load, I'll back it off a grain or so and retest, wat...

My kid shot one once from about 10 feet, right through the open mouth with a CCI Stinger .22LR and the bullet did not exit. Broke the skull up pretty good though. They are tough buggers, and mean too. My buddy in Eastern OR has been charged by two different badgers in the last two weeks, hit both wi...

Thanks for the welcome Glen. My Savage shoots better than anything I've ever shot before...my best groups so far have been 0.55"@100yds (3 shots) and 0.78"@100yds (5 shots). The only complaint is that my other rifles don't have the Accutrigger....

My name is Erik, I 'm 34 and an avid hunter/shooter/reloader and fish quite a bit as well. My .204 is a Savage 12FV and I primarily use it for bunnies, ground squirrels rockchucks and coyotes (though I haven't got a shot at a 'yote as yet). I have 2 boys that love to hunt as well. I'd like to make a...
