Re: Safely extrapolating load data

And I might add, I'am not one for jumping from one powder to another just because someone found a killer load with a different powder. You go after that new powder and you end up not knowing the real potential of the multi selections of powders you've already got on hand. Get a powder and work it t...

Safely extrapolating load data

I'm getting some 55 grain Bergers for my 204 (9 twist barrel) and am having trouble finding load data for my preferred powders, which are R10X, A2230 and CFE223. Is there a way to SAFELY extrapolate load data for the 55s using Bergers published data for 40 grain bullets as a basis? If it would be a ...

Re: Rifle Basix triggers

I just got back from the range and the new trigger is great. I think it's really going to help me shrink my groups. Below is the best group of the day. The load was 24.0 gr of A2230 with a 40 gr Nosler ballistic tip bullet. Shot at 100 yards, 5 shots .330" center to center. http://i1233.photobu...

Re: Rifle Basix triggers

Just wanted to post a quick update. I got my Rifle Basix trigger yesterday from our buddy Brad at Custom Reloading Tools. I had ordered it early enough so I was sure I would get it by today at the latest so I could use it this weekend. I noticed it still hadn't shipped by last Tuesday so I contacted...

Rifle Basix triggers

I want to get rid of the stock Xmark trigger on my Remington 700 and get one where I don't have to swap out the safety and bolt release. How does Rifle Basix compare to say Shilen or Timney?

Re: Did i make a mistake

Breaking in a new barrel is basically a crude honing process to remove any tooling marks to make the barrel as smooth as possible. On some high end barrels that are hand lapped like Shilen they recommend no break in at all. It's just not needed. Since your gun is a Savage I would follow Savage's rec...

Re: Nosler brass problem

And loosing a few pieces of "premimum" brass is nothing compared to blowing up or damaging your gun or worse yet, personel injury. Sounds like you got off pretty cheap! You're right Mikie, the rifle is fine, I'm fine - nothing damaged but a little brass and my pride. :D But I have l...

Re: Nosler brass problem

I get the point Rick. I made assumptions I shouldn't have regarding consistency between different manufacturers. It wont happen again.

Re: Nosler brass problem

I did some testing over the weekend and it appears I owe everybody who said my load was too hot an apology. I measured some of the Nosler cases before loading and they were all 1.830" or 1.831", at the minimum length. On firing, half the primers blew out. When I measured those cases and th...

Re: Nosler brass problem

And the case gets slammed against the bolt face and you also get ejector marks and you think "over pressure". (when you really don't) ;) I respectfully disagree. In actuality, when you have a short case (case shoulder to chamber shoulder), you'll usually experience a case separation or in...
