Re: Clean burning powders for the 204 Ruger ?

My favorite powder for the 204 is CFE223, and It seems to burn pretty clean. 27.9 grains gives me excellent and consistent accuracy. I've also had very good results with Benchmark.

Re: Nosler vs Hornady brass

My major complaint with Hornady brass is that it seems to work harden very quickly and is prone to split necks. Once I started annealing the brass on a regular basis I haven't had those problems.

Re: Help me decide which caliber...

I just did a 6BR build on a Savage and that caliber makes a good critter round. It's dead nuts accurate, can reach out to 600 yards with ease, light recoil, and cheap to reload.

Re: 6BR build

You mean, "good dust" as in stuff is flying off the shelves, or "bad dust" as in, we are letting the NY business fade away as we build up in PA? I was a bit worried about that too. I asked the clerk flat out "Are you guys going out of business?". He said "We sell ...

Thanks my friend. I was at our buddies in East Rochester getting a 6mm cleaning brush last week. All they have on their shelves is dust.

Re: 6BR build

Thanks guys. It is a B & C Medalist stock and the barrel is a McGowen in 8 twist. You're right Toasty, these things are a blast to build. I really enjoy being able to say "Me" when people ask who built your rifle. If you don't already have one, I would suggest a 6BR. From 300 to 600 ya...

6BR build

I just finished a 6BR Savage build and got out to the range yesterday. I was very pleased with the results. Using 24.5 gr of H322 and 107 gr Sierra MKs I was consistently getting sub half inch 5 shot groups, and that powder is not supposed to work well with heavy bullets in a 6BR. I'm getting 2 lbs ...

Rick, you and boys should seriously consider doing some videos and posting them here or on Youtube.

Re: Questions about CFE223

CFE223 is one of my favorite powders for the 204, especially with 39gr Sierra BKs. That combo using 27.9 gr of CFE is by far the most consistently accurate of any bullet/powder combination I have tried. Last Sunday I got a .303" center to center 5 shot group at 100 yards.

Re: Development of .204 Ruger and Choice to use 223 Magnum

The 204 was based on the .222 magnum which gives about 10% more case capacity than if it was based on the .223

Re: Availability of .204 Brass

+1 on annealing. I am convinced it really extends brass life. Before I started annealing I could get maybe 3 reloads on Hornady brass, which work hardens really quickly, before I started getting lots of split necks. Now I've lost count on the number of reloads on my brass and I have had exactly one ...

That's OK Rick. I'm sorry if I got a little hot. I'm half Irish and we hold potatoes in high esteem.

I surprised at you Rick, comparing the president to a potato. That's a very disrespectful thing to say about potatoes.

Re: Curse those Fins and their superior powder-making abilit

The Viht N140 (single base) is one of my favorite powders, but my local shop doesn't stock it (or much of anything else any more) so on top of being expensive to start with I have to cough up $25 in hazardous shipping charges. The stuff is really nice though.
