Re: Low Recoil & Big Distance...?

It is interesting that this website has such a following of like minded shooters/hunters. A very positive group of folks (and wise).

Re: Ruger's new 1911 is on it's way

With reloads? If so, you should be able to substantially shoot smaller than 3" groups off a bench with a Kimber. With my 100% factory Taurus PT1911 at 25 yards I can hold 8 shots under 3.25" consistently offhand shooting 200gr LSWC bullets reloaded with Bullseye powder. With better sights...

Re: OCW test 204R updated

I get the extreme pleasure of shooting with Mr. Jeff Block a few times a month in silhouette matches. I had already been using his On Target software prior to meeting him. He is a gentleman and a very bright programmer. Dedicated to the shooting sports.

Re: Rust?

The biggest downside to the matte finish that is becoming more and more popular is that there is no way to deal with rust spots without "damaging" the matte finish. I say "damaging" because the affected area will end up not matching the surrounding area. With a polished blue fini...

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua build

Looks like a precision machine!

Post your load results when you get a chance. I shoot in metallic silhouette competition and the 6.5x47L is becoming a popular choice for that sport. I am going with a 6.5 Creedmoor instead but very similar ballistics to your 6.5x47.

Cheers!

Re: OCW test 204R updated

Thanks for posting this Hedge. If you get around to shooting more groups with that .055' jump load that you developed I'd like to hear the results. Thanks for posting all the photos and the write up.

Re: Low Recoil & Big Distance...?

For a 260 Remington using a 140 gr Nosler with a muzzle velocity of 2700 fps, it has a 36" drop @ 1000 yards w/a scope zeroed @ 100 yards Can this be right. That is the flattest shooting gun on earth. My 7mm will drop about 35 inches at 500 yards zeroed at 200. My computer says this will be mo...

Same for me as wirelessguy. I carry one in the field, and I keep it clean (wash it in a tub of simplegreen). They are fantastic tools.

Re: Zeroing in?

I sight in at 100yds and dial in my elevation for given ranges. Doesn't matter what distance you zero in for you are going to have to adjust for it one way or another. By sighting in high at 100 you have to aim low at a 100. You can't escape ballistics.

Re: strange scale behaviour

I've switched to a RCBS Chargemaster 1500, but here is something that I noticed with my pan scale. If you don't do everything the same you can end up with inconsistent measurements. When I would dump the powder in the pan I would then hold the arm down and then let the scale balance out. If I just d...

Re: Weight reduction through barrel elimination.

Trent you will most likely lose around 35 to 45 feet per second for every inch of barrel loss! In a fast caliber like the 22-250 it is no big thing other than more muzzle blast but in a much larger caliber it will really effect your kinetic energy at the muzzlel. I like 24 and 26 inch barrels. I wa...

Re: Weight reduction through barrel elimination.

Nobody ever addressed the original question on this, and I recently came across this neat pipe weight calculator when trying to decide on what contour of barrel I wanted for a custom barrel. http://www.matweb.com/tools/weightcalculator.aspx I guessed you barrel diameter at .750" and entered .22...
