Re: Nikon hath sinned against me

A new Monarch 4-16x50SF bought late last year was my first and probably last Nikon scope. Got the Monarch after reading many reviews by owners that swore they preferred it over their Leupolds. Mine isn’t even remotely close having all the issues mentioned above. Bought another Leupold and so far the...

Re: 32 vmax verse 40 vmax

There have been many reports here of folks with 12” twist barrels that will not shoot the 40grain but do just fine with the 39 gr. SBK and other less than 40 grain projectiles in factory or handloads. If they don’t chime in soon with specifics “search” will get you plenty. Enjoy, and Howdy to the fo...

Re: Neck sizing question

The T/C Encore and Contender actions give considerably more when fired than bolt action guns allowing the case to stretch more. Check out bellmtcs.com for some good reading on how to make life with the T/C break open guns more enjoyable. Neck sizing only for these things is pretty much a no-no.

Re: Looking for info

I clamped a cutting board to overhang the end of my work bench and with the rifle on the rest aligned with the bench and my chest lightly against the cutting board with rear bag on top I ‘adjusted’ until everything was comfortable. The ‘slant’ for me needs to be left rear edge of the bench forward ~...

Re: Looking for info

Hi ryutzy. Nice bench you did there. I’d be just as well off doing something like it but with enough money tied up in fancy hand tools to pay for two well fitted Coopers, I’m going hard core on this bench with hand cut mortise-and-tenon joints pegged, wedged, and a little glue but no metal fasteners...

Re: Looking for info

Speaking of benches, I’m building a heavy shooting bench (treated 4x6 and 6x6) for use with my new mechanical rest and good ole bunny ear rear bag. I will have the bottom edge of the bag and stock even with the edge of the bench while sitting leaned ever so slightly forward from upright with stock t...

Re: 204 vrs 223

My vote is for you must have both . I love my Contenders and have had .223 Remington in 14” and 21” barrels for decades. Last fall I finally checked to see what a .204 Ruger was all about and soon had a Remington 700 to cover the bolts and a ss 23” no taper G2 barrel arrived last month. Part of my a...

Re: Did I do that?

Thank you for the response guys. Reckon I should have mentioned the only reason I care about putting a stud back in would be for the use of a bipod at some point. I’ll keep the GrovTec products in mind as they appear to be of a higher quality than the Uncle Mike’s and they do the Multi-Adapter Swive...

Did I do that?

After resting off bags or whatever was handy all my life I finally bought a nice mechanical rest with the AP windage top. Sling swivel studs are good when you need them but to me are annoying when shooting from any rest. Sinclair warns me of damage to the bag that will come with recoil and say to re...

Remington 700 SA

Brownell’s has blued Remington 700 SA receivers with the .223 or .308 bolt face on sale for $370 with these and the other versions shown as “in stock”. My latest projects have left me too poor to play for awhile but thought some of you’ll might like to start a build without getting stuck with all th...

Re: Varmint 30-06??

Hi chris_32212. Not a .30-06 but I had great accuracy and varmint style performance with late 70’s vintage Speer 130gr. HP from a .308 Winchester. I’m sure Speer’s or most anyone’s light for caliber thinner jacketed stuff designed for the purpose would do well. My 22” skinny barrel .270 Win. will be...

Re: Loading .22 Hornet to form .22 K-Hornet

Thanks Rick. I have the 36 grain Grenades in the ‘cart’ but it’s still waiting on the GO button and easy to fix. Was your Competition Seater a “custom” order? I’m not seeing it listed at Sinclair. The micrometer is fine but fumble finger friendly gets the money. I know where my old dies ...

Loading .22 Hornet to form .22 K-Hornet

I am just before ordering a Redding Full Length Die Set #80362 in .22 K-Hornet so the stripped size die can to go to Grants Pass, Oregon with my 21” .22LR Contender barrel that is to be re-chambered. There will likely be a long wait involved but in the end it should be worth it. Rather than shoot ...

Re: Reloading

Due to error at the store I was shipped the Remington 6 ½ primers instead of the 7 ½ but chose to keep them after initial inquiries revealed little difference. Since then I have seen many warnings that the 6 ½ primers are for use only with lower pressure rounds such as .22 Hornet because of...
