Re: Nosler 40 gr Ballistic tips
Thanks everyone for your replies. I load for accuracy too because I like to shoot out to 500 yards. What brand of 4895 are you using? IMR or Hodgdon.
I have some H4895 to test with my IMR 8208. When the range opens up in May I will test both powder.

Nosler 40 gr Ballistic tips
I am looking for information from those who used the 40 gr BT. I have a Shilen1-10 twist 26 inch barrel and the only powder I have is IMR8208. Nosler's loading data is slower than Hodgden, Hornady and Sierra manuals. Nosler has the longest bearing surface compared to Hornady 40gr and Sierra 39gr so ...

Re: AR 15 and clean burn
Imr 8208 XBR is the cleanest AR15 powder I found for the 204 Ruger and my 6.5 Grendel. I gave up on Rel 10X in the 204 Ruger . 10X gave me a very hard carbon build up in the area by the throat. The bolt and carrier had a heavy carbon build up too. Last year I shot over 300 rounds at Prairee Dogs wit...

Re: ar dreams ?
Go to a custom barrel makers web site and see what it would cost you to make that barrel. Also what it weights. There is a reason they only go to one inch diameter barrels. You have to leave room for the gas tube to fit. Also you will need a custom upper designed to hold the weight of the 28" b...

Re: Trigger Help
For the last 5 years I have shot Pd's with the Savage accu-trigger and an AR15 with the Rock River Arms national match trigger. I upgraded my AR15 to a Geissele Match Rifle trigger this year. The two stage trigger is my favorite because I learned to use it shooting old Military Rifles. The single st...

Re: Shilen 1-9 twist barrel
Valar. Have you tried the Nosler 40 gr. bullet? The last time out shooting I shot two 5 shot groups. Both groups were 3" groups at 300 yards. I loaded these loads near maximum. My original 100 yard testing was with a mid charge load. This was the first try past 100 yards. I shot my other rifle ...

Re: Shilen 1-9 twist barrel
I plan on working up some loads in the spring. It's getting a tad cold in Wisconsin. Right now my fingers get to cold to shoot accurately. It's just right for ice fishing and I need to get out on the ice. I plan on trying the Sierra 39grBK, Nosler 40 gr BT, and Hornady 40 gr V-max bullets. IMR8208XBR...

Re: Primer of Choice?
For accurate bolt action rifles I use Federal GM205M. CCI 400 for blasting ammo. For AR15's Remington 7 1/2 match primers or CCI 450 mag for accurate loads. Do NOT use Federal GM205M in an AR15. Well you can if you want to destroy your fireing pin. The fireing pin is .008" smaller in diameter t...

texaz, there is nothing wrong with your carrier/bolt group. This is a feeding problem betwen the magazine and feed ramps.Lead tipped bullets will drag alot on the feed ramps. Polish your feed ramps smooth.Next check where the steel ramps meet the aluminum receiver. The aluminum ramp (if it has the c...

Re: New AR not cycling!
The reason for the carrier cut out was to make the carrier not trip the sear an M16 fully automatic rifle. The BATF at one time ruled this carrier as a machine gun part and it would be illegal. That is why the manufactures used the more cut out one. See below. The BATF has now changed thWritten by B...

Re: New AR not cycling!
The 204 Carrier on the left is the same kind I use in all my AR15's. It's an M16/AR15 legal to use carrier. That is not the problem. Was this a custom build or factory upper? Is it new or used? A 204 Ruger chamber has a vey long throat. Loading to 2.260" is OK. What is the exact problem you are...
