Re: Jewell Trigger Instalation
I have tried a couple stock triggers, a Timney, and a Jewell. So far the Jewell is my favorite and the one I recommend.

Re: scope size recommendations
If terrain is an issue, it's time to deploy the Harris bipod and fanny pack. ;) Close, we use vanguard shooting sticks, dove stool and dove vest. Sitting on the ground or laying down would only add to the problem. The pic below is what I use (though the seat has changed) and the rifle is one I don'...

Re: scope size recommendations
Out of curiosity, do you guys shoot off a bench? Is grass/weeds a big factor? Just curious why such a dramatically different preference. I shoot typically 50 PDs a trip, I've gone probably 10 times this year to a location about 100 miles away but I know its different from most of you since there is ...

Re: scope size recommendations
I'm surprised to hear someone would be happy with just 12 or 14x? I have a 14x on my CZ and wish often it was as powerful on what I have on my VTR which is 24x. To each his or her own. I wish someone had told me when I bought my first prairie dog scope to get something at least 20x or more. I never ...

Re: Long and Hot: 100*F & 600 Yards
Very cool. A bit off topic, how do you like the mini-me setup? I am looking for a lightweight way to carry a second rifle (primary would be carried or slinged on right shoulder). My left shoulder carries a dove stool and shooting stick bipod so this looks like a nice option. Before I saw this I was ...

Re: scope size recommendations
That is called a sun shade. Its good to keep glare and water off and sometimes muzzle heat mirages off the front of the scope. I agree with the 6.5-20x recommendation. I have 9x, 14x, and 16x and today ordered a 24x. Even at 250 yards and less I like the critters to be larger in my view (usually I s...

Re: Tell us about yourself...
I'm in the same boat, I have a couple .223s, 17HMR and the 204 and they all seem to make it out with me. Only the .22LR gets left at home for Prairie Dog hunting these days.

Re: new .204 rifle choice?
I suspect like most here I only have had two rifles in 204 and can only comment on those. Of the ones you mention, I have a CZ 527 Varmint and it has excellent accuracy and weight, and the best factory trigger I have used. The downside for me is the bolt will bind if you just force it forward after ...
Re: triggers
The single stage is basically a traditional trigger. You squeeze it and it doesn't move until it fires (ideally if no creep). The two stage usually has higher resistance (6-8lbs) and some travel before it comes to a point where the trigger get into the single stage mode with the lighter pull (1-4lbs...

Re: DPMS LR-204
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately its a shop that has so test firing is not an option. I was able to inspect/field strip it myself and it all looks to be in excellent condition but of course no way to tell if it will have issues you describe.

DPMS LR-204
This weekend was the debut weekend for me with a CZ 527 in 204 and my dad and I had a blast. He was using my 17HMR but often most of the targets were about 150-250 yards and the ones he could hit with the 17 just limped away. So I'm looking for another 204 for him to borrow we when go. I have an opp...

Re: First 204
FWIW, I'll be able to give an unbiased review of my new CZ 527 Varmint I just picked up after this weekend's maiden trip (saturday to zero at the range at 200 yards and then a PD trip on Sunday). It impressed me on the counter with the quality, everything is very well machined and it feels like qual...

Re: Tell us about yourself...
Hey everyone my name is Tom. I'm relatively new to prairie dog hunting though I had been wanting to try it for years. I finally took a trip here in New Mexico as an escape from my wife's family reunion and instantly got hooked. I bought a .17HMR and needed something with more range and found this si...
