Re: Remington 700 sps varmit
I have a 700 SPS Varmint and I hated it for quite a while. It was sub MOA... just. I got an HS Precision stock and that helped, the Remington stock is shockingly flimsy. Then my wife got me a Timney trigger which is light and crisp. I worked on my loads and found that the lighter bullets didn't do s...

Re: 39 gr Sierra Blitzkings and Reloder 10X
Getting very similar groups with the 39gr SBK and RL10x with 24.8gr in my R700. I only tested as low as 24.6 though so maybe I go a little lower. I too am looking for accuracy and not velocity unless that helps accuracy. I also get great results with H4985, IMR 3031, Benchmark, and Aliant 2015 all u...

Re: Question regarding free bore
Wanted to post an update. I am getting happier. I added a Limbsaver Sharpshooter Xring. ( http://www.limbsaver.com/2011/firearms/41.php ) and it brought the groups down significantly. They are $8 so why not try them out was my thought. They really do make the rifle look ugly, like a sci-fi raygun, b...

Re: Question regarding free bore
OK then. Advice good. I have some sierra 39gr coming and some new powders, (H4895 has been best of the bunch and still have that, 2015, 2520 and 10x are coming. I have not had luck with Varget or Benchmark) I will do some development and see what I see. If anyone has an R700 with a load that works w...

Re: Question regarding free bore
Well I still am having no luck. With the case gauge I got the shell at Midaway I believe... Anyway, the bullet goes so far into the leade that it falls out of the case before it hits the rifling. I called Remington on it and they said to return it. If they can't find a problem I am going to rebarrel...

Re: Question regarding free bore
Thank you! I thought I was crazy. I looked down the bore to see if something was stuck in the front of the chamber... I just couldn't believe it.
OK. Back to developing a load. Going to try RL10x. Was using H4895 and not loving the results.

Question regarding free bore
Hey all. Haven't been here in ages. I have a question. I have an R700 varmint. I was handloading and not getting good results. I have to use un-leaded only. I got advice here and from Redding that copper bullets like to jump to the lands and Redding recommended going to the minimum suggested load an...

Re: Help on dies which to buy
That is exactly what I wanted to know. I never thought of the chamfering of the seater itself. I might get an additional collar and then try to get that a little larger to move the contact down the ogive from the top. It is hitting right at the tip as there is a mark there right at the top on every ...

Help on dies which to buy
I got a lot of info here on loading 204 and the best advice was the seating depth. I bought and use a hornady bullet comparitor on the loaded shells and what I get is a pretty wide variation. I think that the ogive of the bullets is inconsistent. That means that my Hornady dies for seating seat on t...

Re: new remington 700 and 40 grain v max not grouping at 100 yds
I have a 700 SPS Varmint and I was really disappointed. To the point that I am going to buy Savage next time. I have it working better now, but with a lot of $ in it. It likes the 32gr VMAX and H4895 at 28 grains best, but that is not perfect. Mostly one hole and a couple fliers. With the SPS Varmin...

Re: Trigger opinions - Jewell or Kepplinger or Timney
OK that makes sense. I know Canjar and know they are oob. Also had a #3 not a #1 but similar idea. I know all the old guys (which I am really really close to becomming) love them. he he he
All the context is really good here. Thanks!

Re: Trigger opinions - Jewell or Kepplinger or Timney
OK. I have rifle envy. Let's get that out of the way now.... Thanks for responding. Having or having used all three is really valuable. The kip is cheaper than the jewell and I like that it has the two settings so I can take it out in the field if I want to. Why should I wait for a #1 for that? I so...

Trigger opinions - Jewell or Kepplinger or Timney
I want a new trigger for my Remington 700. I want a light pull but not insane light. Choices are: Timney at about 1.5+ lbs for $125 Jewell at about 1.5oz - 3lbs for $229 Kepplinger set trigger from about 1.5oz to 3lbs for $166 I am leaning towards the Kepplinger. Had a set trigger on an SSG years ag...

Re: new remington 700 and 40 grain v max not grouping at 100 yds
I want to add that the stock on the SPS and the SPS Varmint are crap. I had a varmint and replaced the stock with a used HS Precision and my groups dropped from 1.5" to .5" or better. I talked to Remington today on another question and complained and the guy said, nicely, that you get what...
