Re: Handgun for CC
Thanks for all of the replys guys. I have been carrying my taurus PT1911 for a few weeks now in a Galco V-HAWK IWB holster. At first it was pretty uncomfortable especially when driving, but wonce I found the right position and belt tension I forget I'm even carrying it! I am still in the market for ...

Re: Handgun for CC
Thanks for the replys everyone. Ill have to think about this one for a while as I'm setting aside the cash. In the meantime, I'm gonna start carrying my Taurus 1911. That should give me a good idea of whether or not I want to carry a full size grip all the time!

Handgun for CC
Alright guys I have decided to start carrying and am looking at pistol options. I am a 1911 fan, and I am looking at three pistols currently: 1) Kimber Super Carry Pro. Yes its pricy, but I like the 4" barrel and the rounded butt which seems like it would "print" less and be more comf...

Count me in too! It would be well worth the trip from Vermont to meet some forum members and shoot some squirrels!

Re: Just how important is clean brass?
I don't clean my precision rifle cases in a tumbler anymore, as it MAY damage the case mouth. I don't want to start any arguments, as this has been hashed out before. This is just what I do. As long as you don't fling brass onto the wet ground it stays pretty clean. There is usually just a little po...

Re: Savage ?
I decided on a Savage after reading all the good reviews. I picked up a 12FV about a year and a half ago and have had a ton of fun with it. Its a nice bench gun and although its long and heavy, I take it hunting as well: http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/nsbardel/downsized_0111111203.jpg Afte...

Re: Caliber for Coyotes
I for one will be taking my 20 VarTarg preditor hunting this season. My main coyote rifle is a 204 ruger shooting 40 V-Max, but the 20VT seems like a great bobcat round. Maybe a little light for a dedicated coyote round. Thats why I chose the 34 CRT (similar to the 35 berger) for my preditor bullet:...

Re: Bench rest advice
RedLeg - A good article on bench tecnique can be found here: http://www.varmintal.net/ashot.htm Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to find the article. I am certainly no benchrest shooter, but my groups have shrunk dramatically through practice and the study of proper tecnique. Here is a ty...

Re: what is the biggest thing
This 25 lb female bobcat took a 32 V-max behind the left shoulder. It was a very challenging 20 yard shot :D http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/nsbardel/downsized_0111111205-1.jpg I dispached a wounded coyote with the same bullet and gun 3 days later, the shot was about 5 feet. Not sure if tha...

Re: HSM 40gr Match Varmint Boat Tail Berger Load
I think Trent explained it very clearly. There is nothing wrong with choosing a powder based on an outside source (friends recomendation, online source, dissassembling factory ammo, etc.) , then verifying it with a load manual and working up a load . nddeluca - Let us know how the load developement ...

Re: Hornady 25gn bullets for the .204Ruger
The 24 grain Hornady NTX (Non-Toxic, i.e. lead free) is listed as available on MidwayUSA. Here is the description: "Designed around the hard-hitting performance of the famous Hornady V-Max bullet, the NTX bullet is specifically designed for supremely accurate long-range shooting for customers w...

Re: Do I have a HOT batch of RL7 powder
Did you shoot any of these loads over a chronograph? If you are getting significantly higher velocity than the rest of us with the same load (17.5 grains of RL-7 pushes a 32 sierra at 3300 fps out of my 24 inch barrel), then you may have a hot batch of RL-7. It may be as simple as backing the charge...

Re: 20 VT case length
Bill - I have read that 1.395 is max trim, but read somewhere else that 1.415 was max trim :chin: . Since my formed cases were under 1.39" I didn't worry about it. You did not list what powder you are going to try first, RL-7 perhaps? I have only shot three groups of test loads through my 20VT...
