Larr, it is a heavy barrel. Barrel heat doesn't seem to be a problem, as the change in impact is inconsistent, jumping from one group to the next during a string of fire. I have tried allowing the barrel to cool between shots with no luck. Also it was 32 degrees today and the barrel barely got warm....

K22, That sure is a nice predator rifle you have there. That seems like more than enough accuracy for predator hunting so maybe I am over thinking it. The 17 Rem has really gotten my interest recently for the reasons you stated. I only wish there was better quality brass available (I looked into it after reading kenbrofox's recent post). Thanks for the tips.
