Bullet stability
I have been working on a load with the 39 BK in my savage and have been getting mixed/confusing results. It seems that as soon as I think I've found the right load, the next time I go to the range it groups poorly. I don't have this problem with my 32 V-max reloads as the gun shoots those into ~ 0.5...

Re: Two Points of Impact
Well I finally got a chance to shoot today. Its been terribly windy for the last couple days, but this evening the wind died completely so I grabbed my gear and headed to the bench. I was only able to shoot one group, as the sun went down and the light slowly faded away: http://i818.photobucket.com/...

Re: Two Points of Impact
Just a quick update, I was checking the action screws, as per Wrangler Johns suggestion, and making sure everything was tight when I reaized that I had only snugged the windage screws on the bases :wall: . I am assuming that this was the problem and will report back when I have time to test fire. Th...

Re: Two Points of Impact
204cat, the trigger is the accutrigger and the best I have ever used. I have done quite a bit of dry fire practice and it seems very consistent. It was driving me crazy for a while trying to figure out if the loss of accuracy was due to me or the equipment and I do believe now that my trigger pull i...

Re: Two Points of Impact
Larr, it is a heavy barrel. Barrel heat doesn't seem to be a problem, as the change in impact is inconsistent, jumping from one group to the next during a string of fire. I have tried allowing the barrel to cool between shots with no luck. Also it was 32 degrees today and the barrel barely got warm....

Two Points of Impact
Hello all, I am looking for some help. I have been reloading for my savage 12fv, shooting mostly 39 BK's with RL-10X, and was finally starting to find a nice load when my gun started shooting to two points of impact: http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/nsbardel/pic1.jpg I figured that it was th...

Re: need help deciding on a new 204....
Dow, I have a savage 12fv and think it was a great value. I payed $580 for a gun that will consistently shoot around .5 inch (+ or - depending on how I was doing that day :) ) groups with factory 32 V-max. I only tried one or two boxes of factory 40 V-max but my first 3 shot group of those went into...

Re: Which Savage model?
The savage website has descriptions of weight, barrel length, mag. capacity, mag. type (internal/external), if it has accustock or accutrigger and more stuff I cant think of. I have a 12fv and it is long and heavy, but thats exactly what I wanted. There sure are a lot of choices so happy hunting. -N...

K22,
Don't worry no offense taken! I always like to hear an honest opinion! And yes I was talking about predator hunting although I like target shooting just for fun as well.

Re: Which bullet for Bobcat?
K22, That sure is a nice predator rifle you have there. That seems like more than enough accuracy for predator hunting so maybe I am over thinking it. I might build a rifle in 17 rem as my next project so thanks for giving me more ideas. I need a preditor rifle for closer ranges and for bobcats, but...

Re: Which bullet for Bobcat?
Sand Rat,
The 17 Rem has really gotten my interest recently for the reasons you stated. I only wish there was better quality brass available (I looked into it after reading kenbrofox's recent post). Thanks for the tips.

Which bullet for Bobcat?
Hello all. Last weekend was the start of rifle season in Vermont and I was sitting in my favorite stand watching a spike-horn mill around (must have a fork to be legal here), when I heard a scream to my left. As I looked that way I caught a glimpse of a bobcat before it disappeared. It must have sna...

Re: Which Leupold scope is right for me?
Ha! Great advice all around! Today I would need a freezing rain shade if I was going shooting  . Just wanted to let everyone know that I have just made my purchase! Its a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x 40mm AO VHR! After much debate I decided that I really wanted the high end magnification and I'm sure I...
